| Quote neutronium76 ( ) 2. When hyper-jumping to a selected object:
Here is a flight path I took using the hyperjump
The speed that I had around Earth stays the same but obviously doesn't put me into an orbit around Mars, so any corrections I have to make on my own. Sadly this only works in hyperjump mode, I would really like the manual mode to at least function the same.
I think the hypermode should ignore gravity of the body you are next to, so any speed would still push you forward even if it isn't escape velocity, and just use your base speed as the factor to multiply by in forward motion. So if I were traveling at 30km/s and my hyperfactor were 2, then my effective forward velocity should be 60 km/s. This would balance it out more in manual mode than how it currently functions.

| Quote neutronium76 ( ) I am refering to their geological features Obviously we don't have those, but he was specifically talking about the view from space in visible light. So for worlds with opaque atmospheres, surface features are irrelevant.

Many planets have textures like this. It almost looks like flowers on the surface! Is it supposed to be craters? It's not a realistic look in my opionion

It's hard to say how realistic it is since we only know the surface of a few celestial bodies.

Quote Fireinthehole ( ) It's hard to say how realistic it is since we only know the surface of a few celestial bodies. We know of dozens, and most of the worlds we know of with no atmosphere or a thin atmosphere have such craters. They are very common. So it's not hard to say.

| In my opinion, those star-shaped craters should be less visible, and more irregular. Their current appearence in SE is artificial. Is there a shader somewhere to edit to make it more realistic ?

| Quote HarbingerDawn ( ) And the same can be said of many things in SE. It's what I think with terrain atlas. It's a great feature as it creates grass, dunes, cracks... But it looks like a paving from far.

They aren't craters, but ray systems, i.e. the ejecta blankets from an impact crater. Sometimes these ejecta are lighter in color than the surrounding surface so they make those star-shaped patterns. I agree they could look better, but as Harb showed they are not unrealistic and actually quite common.

| Thanks for the answers! I'm persuaded
I'm hoping for a high-resolution texture of Saturn. Like this one, taken by the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft in 2008 (which also is my desktop background at the moment ), Unfortunately, as far as I know, no maps of this quality exists. Maybe it is possible to make one artificially?

| There aren't many good maps of the gas giants available; presumably because the details are always changing. It's a shame, because I'd really love to see a very detailed Saturn too.

I actually believe this would be relatively simple to solve, although I don't know what it would cost in terms of performance / memory management: if, instead of one tile per ground type, there were 3 or 4 to choose randomly from, that artificial appearence would be at the very least greatly reduced.
They let me use this!
