| While talking with HarbingerDawn and messing with SE I thought about many RPGs and games with map systems that let you mark spots on a map and thought this might be a useful function for SE.
The ability to place flag like markers/labels on areas of a planet/moon/asteroid and give them a custom name. This would be separate from the locations file as they would be temporary markers to go back to spots and save them later or to mark them for recording/screens.
Like this
Another thing that would be useful is being able to mark multiple objects to track their current location.

| I've had similar discussions regarding "bookmarkers" here: http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/8-255-1879-16-1320531211
I've been wanting something like this for a while now.
Quad Core i7 930 CPU o/c 3.8 GHz - 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM - ATI HD 5870 1024Mb - Intel SSD X25-M Gen 2 - Win 7 64-bit Add Your PC Spec To Your Signature Or Post It Here

Looks like a terraformed Mars to me with the "craters" being Olympus Mons and the Tharsis Montes.
I occasionally stream at http://www.twitch.tv/magistermystax. Sometimes SE, sometimes other games.

| Its my own modified Mars in a custom Sol system I setup.
I actually looked it up and saw that but its only vaguely similar. Still either would be a nice system.

| Hey, this is a good idea. Alongside location, we could have other stats too. Maybe a distance between you and the object displayed beside the reticle or something.

My objective with my referenced link was to add more cohesion to your discussion here, hoping for a combined system of sorts; whether it's bookmarks, markers, or flags.

| (AustinMclEctro) Maybe a distance between you and the object displayed beside the reticle or something. That would be really useful. Basically measuring the distance between two points on a planets surface or the distance between a point on the surface and a point on a station or moon orbiting over head. That might even be a useful mechanic when ships are fully implemented with orbital mechanics.
(Robbie) whether it's bookmarks, markers, or flags.
All at once would be totally awesome

| If you find a database of surface features (mountains, rivers, lakes, craters etc) of Earth and other Solar system bodies, it will be a good point to start.

| (SpaceEngineer) Do you propose to plagiarize? Well i don't think that it is plagiarizing if you use the same catalog of locations as another program, but it never hurts to ask for permission.

| (SpaceEngineer) Do you propose to plagiarize? No, I was only asking if that could be useful. Besides, the galaxy catalog already seems to be adapted from Celestia...

| Yep, SE needs its own galaxy catalog. There are many mods that come from Celestia too - planets/satellites textures, catalogs of asteroid and comets, etc. They can be remade from sources - NASA maps, asteroid database, binary stars catalogs, etc, but I have no time to do it. It would be cool if someone helps, someone with good skill in programming and knowledge in astronomy.

| I had a simliar idea, but temporally, too.
Basically, you could mark a place and time, then have a way for the game to teleport you to that spot and time, so if there's a 6 way eclipse or something, you can see it again.
