Two months ago, I got a new computer with a Pentium D and a Radeon 5570 with 1GB of VRam. The 1st day I installed the latest drivers for my card.
Obviously, SE ran totally fine on it, but only for the first week. Then it started to crash every five minutes. I open it, and I start flying around, but flying around the galaxies or simply wathing a sunrise on Uranus (that has only one texture and it hasn't got landscape), when SE has been running for 5 minutes it crashes.
I have the fast landscape disabled, the LOD to -2, and I edited the config files to get a 1440x900 resolution and a "PlanetDetailTexScale" about 500 times lower than default, so I don't know what can be the reason of the crashes.

My desktop:
Pentium G3260 @ 3.30GHz
8.0 GB DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 5570 1GB

Try going into main.cfg and lower the value of VideoMemoryMaxPercent to 75. That solved the crashing problems for me, and makes it run much smoother than with the normal value.

I occasionally stream at http://www.twitch.tv/magistermystax. Sometimes SE, sometimes other games.

Thanks for the suggestion apenpaap, but I tried it and it didn't work. Anyway, when I downloaded SE it worked fine, so I'm donwloading it again because I started to change things of all the files and I don't remember what I changed, so I think the best will be re-"intalling" the game.

I finally re-installed SE and now, at least with procedural stars disabled, it runs fine.
