I was wondering about this.

Pardon me if this has been asked before. I've searched for an answer but haven't found one.

Do I have a corrupted stars120k.cfg file? Because there are only 3359 stars in it even though there are 120,000 i assume in stars120k.dat

I came across this when looking in stars120k.cfg for Gliese 180 (it's not there).

It seems like it should be in that list of 120,000 stars though. I've searched for it by its Hipparcos number (HIP 22762) in SE as well to no avail.

Rather than reinvent the wheel and create Gliese 180, can someone tell me what # it should be in stars120k.cfg since those numbers in the left most column do not correspond to Hipparcos catalog numbers?

stars120k.cfg is not a catalog, it is a list of alternate names for stars in the 120k catalog.

I typed in HIP 22762, pressed enter, and it selected the star immediately. It is there.

Indeed it is. Thanks! smile

I guess I didn't bother trying to go there because it didn't show up in the browser. Just out of curiosity, is there any criteria on what shows up in the browser and what doesn't?

Also, how do I enter debug mode (so I can see the internal # of a star as used in stars120k.cfg)?
