Is anyone getting REALLY dark images of the Outer Planets? They aren't as bright as I hoped.

Turn off "Real Planet Brightness"

I have no clue why I didn't see this LOL. Thank you for that. I feel dumb, LOL! Are the outer plents really that dim or is that just a small bug? It looks much better with the rel planet brightness toggled off XD

There was a whole discussion about it starting at the bottom of this page: http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/21-881-5

To summarize it, Real Planet Brightness doesn't accurately show the amount of light a planet gets (more significant for planets further out) and is only to compare the planet brightnesses to each other in the F2 panel.

They are not really that dim nor is it a bug. Real planet brightness is only good for comparing the relative levels of illumination that each planet receives from its star. But it does not give a good or realistic visual appearance generally.

You can see a rather thorough discussion about it starting here: http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/21-881-6

EDIT: Ninja'd!

And it is not just for use in the F2 menu, it is for comparing relative light levels generally. But it does not make things look more realistic or nicer, in fact quite the opposite.

I already ninja'd you, although I put it several posts before that, starting with Space Engineers question about real planet brightness.

Besides, it makes the surface of planets close to the star blindingly white.

Thanks guys, that rocks. I'm actually planning on contributing to this program and working on a small add-on! Should be done in an hour or two. I love this program. Can't wait for more.
