unfortunately the problem stays same ...

the used texture memory etc all goes down to zero and it gets stuck in this and all details go to low blurred

Try to disable auto memory detection and enter memory size manually: http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/4-58-1 (read paragraph 5)

Looks like you are missing the config files.

Might be worth checking to see if SpaceEngine's files have been downloaded properly. Compare the file size from the website with your downloaded zipped files on your PC. if the files are not same size then download it again. Or it could be that the extracted zipped files may have not extracted properly. Try extracting those files again to a new folder. The unzipped engine folder size should be ~400Mb.

Whiteboy, I already see this error earlier. Did you copy SpaceEngine.exe file on the desktop instead of creating shortcut to it? smile

Hello SpaceEngineer, hello everybody!

First, let me say THANK YOU for providing such an amazing piece of software for free to all interested! It is simply fantastic what you already achieved with your program. Well done!

I have a question for you. I was very excited when I realized that you included Eric Bruneton's atmospheric rendering logic into your latest version of Space engine. In my opinion, Mr. Bruneton so far created the definitive, most stunning and realistic looking atmosphere rendering I have ever seen! So I am very happy that you SpaceEngineer adapted your engine to use the code Mr. Bruneton.
Now, unfortunately, there seems to be a slight issue with that atmospheric rendering on my system. I should mention, that the exact same issue also appeared when I had run Eric Bruneton's demo (found here: http://www-evasion.imag.fr/Membres/Eric.Bruneton/demo.html )!
Okay, now for some screenshots taken in SpaceEngine to illustrate the problem:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v316/Rhinehornet/scr00043.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v316/Rhinehornet/scr00039.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v316/Rhinehornet/scr00040.jpg

The issue I mean are the lines and circles showing within the atmospheric haze. They show up on the horizon limb, at the top of the atmopshere and in circles, concentrically centered on the main light source directional axis from the camera point of view. The lines also show up on rendered terrain. All these lines are visible whenever an atmosphere is rendered, independent of the camera's position, in- or outside the atmosphere.
My system specs are at the lower end:
Windows XP 32 bit, Intel Core2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16 GHz; 3,25 GB RAM; ATI Radeon HD3850 PCIe 2.0 with 512 MB DDR3 with driver version 11.5

Now one thing worth noting is that Eric Bruneton states the following regarding his software on the webpage (see link above), which says:
Quote
This software has only been tested on Windows XP with an NVIDIA GeForce 7900 or an NVIDIA GeForce 8800, and specific NVIDIA driver versions. IT MAY NOT WORK WITH ANY OTHER SYSTEM CONFIGURATION.

Maybe the issue is bound to ATI cards, that they cannot render these atmospheric algorithms corrcetly?... cry

Thank you in advance for any feedback. I already considered getting a new graphics card. From Nvidia that is!

Best wishes to all! Greetings from Germany.

Hello Atmoscat,

I saw this bug the first time! No one had reported about this until now. I think this is a system/drivers issue. Try to update video drivers.

However, many people on the Russian GameDev forum reported that Eric Bruneton's demo stopped working a few months ago. And some people had made their own adaptation of Bruneton's code, had had the same issue. I uploaded my edited version of Bruneton's demo to load pre-computed textures from the disk, as SpaceEngine does, and it worked okay! So this is probably a bug in the current new drivers, both NVidia and ATI, that brakes the shaders that pre-compute scattering textures. However, my computers do this fine with the newest drivers.

About your bug. Maybe updating the drivers will help you. Try to run an older version of SpaceEngine (You can find them at the download page). Anyway, upgrading of hardware will help. smile

Hello SpaceEgineer!

Thanks for taking the time to look into this. I tested the earlier version of SE (ver. 0.93), though the problem still prevails. The issue with the lines and circles showing in the atmosphere were also visible the exact same way with previous/older graphics driver versions. Also the issue was showing exactly like that in the demo of Eric Bruneton. So, as you mentioned, it looks like the only workaround is getting new and more capable graphics hardware (with 1GB or 1,5GB memory).
I would also be very interested in your edited version of Bruneton's demo, whenever you find the time to upload it.

BTW, somewhere on the forums I had read that a member offered server space for you to provide high volume for downloads for high resolution textures (and bumpmaps) for planet Earth. Have you, by chance, already been able to upload this? The screenshots of Earth you posted here in the forums look even more amazing, with a great level of detail.

Again, thanks for all the hard work, I am enjoying your simulator a lot. Looking forward to play with it on better hardware and see your future program updates!

smile

Here's a link to my updated Bruneton's demo:

http://narod.ru/disk/13882445001/BrunetonAtmoFixed_Neptune2.rar.html

It includes pre-computed textures for Earth's atmosphere (compatible with SE .atm file, it seems).

About uploading hi-res textures. I am now working on some other features, and have no time to do this. Current version has trouble in forming of seams and cracks in landscape. Improving of terrain code may lead to necessity of "recompiling" of textures: Adding or removing a border etc. So it makes no sense to upload these textures now. Better to wait for a new version later.

*NEWS - NEWS - NEWS*
SpaceEngineer, I just woke up and had this sudden thought about the reason for the above described graphics problem. I think I've detected the cause of it! It must have to do with the OpenGL version. My graphics card (Sapphire Radeon HD3850 512MB, PCIe) only supports OpenGL version 2.0! I just looked it up and that version is from 2004! surprised
I am pretty certain this is the cause for all this mess!
Need to get a new card which supports at least 3.0, I think I read it somewhere here on in the manual.

Thank you SpaceEngineer for uploading your version of Bruneton's demo!

I agree that it does not make sense at the moment, to upload the hi-res texture sets. I am looking forward to new versions of SE.

I think the issue is not in OpenGL version. If the program does not support rendering of atmosphere, it won't run anyway. By the way, I'm surprised that you can run SpaceEngine with OpenGL 2.0 hardware. I thought the minimum is 3.0, I plan to make checking of GL version at SE start-up which will interrupt the program if GL version is less than 3.0.

No, buy a videocard which supports at least 4.0 smile The newest version of GL is 4.1.

Hmm.
ive watched some videos with planets having all of those cool surfaces.
but in my case everytime i go to surface it isnt generating anything.
it stays a 2D mess.
no mountains craters. nothing

any ideas? wacko

Okay. Well, I have not yet been able to explicitly determine which OpenGL version is used by my graphics card, though the technical description says 2.0.

Yes, a card that supports 4.1 would be nice. Have to find one with 1GB and preferrably with passive cooling or liquid cooling system.

Just for the record. Found this in the SE log file:

Quote
Initializing OpenGL
Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
Renderer: ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series
OpenGL version: 3.3.10750 Compatibility Profile Context
GLSL version: 3.30

So it looks like my graphics card actually uses OpenGL 3.3? If yes, its a bit strange, as in the manufacturer details OpenGL 2.0 is listed. Could it be that the supported OpenGL version can go higher with newer drivers?

1) Your video card characteristics? Size of VRAM, OpenGL version.
2) Attach the log file.

Maybe When your graphics card was made, THE current GL version was 2.0? And now with new drivers your card supports full GL 3.3, but does not support for example GL 4.0 and 4.1
