I found this dark and gloomy terra with life.

And picture from the surface. Some lonely islands on the ocean of shadows. And it is daytime wink

Uff. I've made it... The planet was so gloomy that it broke SE couple of times...

Obviously we've focused so much on finding pretty picturesque locations, that these ugly planets are mad at us for neglecting them and are glitching out and crashing Space Engine in their fury! tongue

Edit: Oh jeez, I was just exploring an ugly world a moment ago and as I approached the surface all the stars vanished from existence. Hypothesis confirmed! wacko

Searching in the smaller of the two galaxies will cause lots of those star glitches, so you'll probably be better off searching in the larger one.

If this gloomy life-less brown-aired stink-pit of a planet does not strike your fancy, you could always move to its moon! I hear they have more delicious green sludge there. tongue

I agree, if it isn't a face, I have trouble deciding if something is ugly or not.

SE does a too good job most of the time. So I think the ugliest might be where SE does a bad job. Like creating something that doesn't look natural. Like repeating patterns, glitches, etc.

Maybe looks should take a backseat to conditions? I wouldn't want to live on a planet with 4g at the surface, 500 atm pressure and orbiting a star 0.03 pc from the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy.

The wording of this challenge seems to allow some individual interpretation as to whether its a matter of aesthetics or surface conditions (personally I saw it as being both with an emphasis on the former). Maybe LiveLife42 could expound on it if he wants. smile

(If someone with a better GPU would take a crack at that terrain, I'd appreciate it!)

Shame the planet's ugly, because three of its moons are gorgeous.
