Again Voekoevaka, nice drawing ! And it seem like a cool world cool I wish my hands could draw such stuff..
Kviki, Those planets look really good, any chance to see bigger resolutions?

I've recently posted few of my homemade mosaic/animation/rgb composite from Cassini/Voyager into a flickr page :

This is what I thought before. But I discover you don't need innate skills to draw, just patience. And your Jupiter images are beautiful.

More about Veldaki :

Veldaki is the name of the structure (made of planets, ways of floatings rocks, old manufactured ring structures...) around a small star (Around the size of earth ~ Physics laws aren't the same here), often called Chtunya.
During the period of the great civilisations of Veldaki, the unique small galaxy of their small universe counts 135 stars (1 black hole), and this galaxy have the shape of a "F". Here is the global history of their universe :

• The universe (they usually used the word "Luthena" to talk about the universe) born after a small big-bang, and it takes only ~1000 years for the matter (half of the total mass) to form a giant star. The explosion of the star in a supernova creates the galaxy and a giant black hole.

• At this period, there was only two "terras with life" on Luthena, Mazmenuca and Sobor. The other planets weren't able to harbor physical life, but there live groups of pure spirits, travelling up to the more distant regions of the universe (for example, the "Hurt Star"), and here occurs the first council of spirits.

• In Mazmenuca starts an ecological crisis, and it's people travelled until Sobor to find ressources to repair the mechanisms of their planet (this is similar to the Niburu myth). They proposed a pact to the natives od Sobor : their ressource in exchange of the secret of their civilisation. The other refused and the war started.

• Some spirits wanted to help the Mazmenuceans, and the council decided to punish them : they were sent in a hot gas giant around the star Vinkova, and returned to a phisical form of life. Here, they wanted to return in the wideness of the universe, and they built a lot of artificial planets, and they modified the structure of the space-time to allow people to easily materialize things with the only strengh of their mind.

• The remains of Sobor were taken to Mazmenuca, but these wasn't sufficient, and their planet dissapear. Without a place to go, the Mazmenuceans died. The Soborians managed to hide themselves in asteroids, using egg-trees as spaceships.

• Vinkova started to grow and became a red giant (Vinkova is referred as the most brilliant star of the sky of Veldaki), and swallowed its planet. Without control, the artificial planets crutched themselves around a young star (which will be Chtunya) and reorganize themselves to build the ecosystem of this world.

• The following is for an other day...

I guarantee to you that this is all real. Someone in Veldaki was or is writing and drawing about some mystical world called Earth, orbiting a star in a gigantic galaxy in a colossal universe. "Oh, it's just this thing I'm making up..." or so they think.

Also, I'm tempted to have some kind of vertical farming solution in the arms of the station (along with elevator mechanics, ladders, piping, ventilation, etc.) There is barely any gravity in the center of the station- could you grow things there? Probably, right?

I heard about a theory where every fictional world starts to exist in the multiverse. According to the theory that everything exist if you travel as far as possible, the Star Wars worlds should exist somewhere...

This theory was used so much in Myst lore.

So, is 1 million faces a lot or a little? I suppose it's a little higher than it should be since certain faces overlap, like when two objects are placed next to each other to fit together perfectly.

(I've added a lot since that last picture I posted)

EDIT: Lessons I've recently learned regarding SketchUp: Disable the option to regenerate the thumbnail after each save if your model is huge. You will save so much time!

Does anyone know anything about elevators? I need a nearly 1 km elevator to carry heavy payloads in a space station (see picture below of the shaft inside the arm of the station, leading to the ring, and you're all the first to see it, too).

Is there any near/remotely feasible way I could create a 1km lift of some kind? Something else I'd like to point out is that the only time it will be in 1G is at the bottom. It only gets easier the higher it goes.

From this POV, the bottom is around 840 meters away.

Do a maglev lift. You're in space, no need to mess with clunky old cables anymore. With that level of technology a maglev could probably be built that could operate against 1 g.

maglev lift

This is a good idea.

I've come up with something, based on the diagrams I've seen of maglev systems- from what I can tell this is just a vertical application of it. Since this particular elevator is a freight elevator, it's going to have to be supercharged. I'm also going to have some magnets underneath the elevator to help slow it down, and a large magnet at the bottom of the shaft to give the elevator a boost upwards.

EDIT: The last one's pretty big, 5000 pixels tall. That's why it may look weird in the preview (when it's scaled down).

EDIT 2: A couple more pictures.

Should have some mechanical safety devices installed as in real elevators, otherwise in an emergency things could get really bad really quickly. Also, given the short range over which electromagnetic forces tend to operate, the booster/brake magnets on the bottom would be rather worthless (I had thought about that earlier). You'd be better off designing it to solely make use of the vertical rails.

What kind of safety devices? Some kind of emergency rails along the side of the elevator shaft, with many equally spaced holes, and mechanisms on the elevator to quickly slide into them if the elevator stars traveling too fast? Maybe there could be some kind of guidance strip on the elevator wall, and a camera built in the elevator monitoring the strip to make sure the speed is correct at any given point?

There would have to be some method of weight detection in the elevator- it would be tricky in the varied gravity environment.

I'm also going to have to redesign the train syatem in the colony to be proper looking maglev trains. That shouldn't be to hard, though. I'm not going to make a vacuum tube system since the train isn't going to be going 400 kph. The track is just over 6 km. (970m radius*2*pi) (6,094.6897479641988826175281635622... meters)

I think two bars on the two sides that can block the elevator in case of emergency should be apropriate.

There are methods to measure the mass of objects in space, depending on the period of an oscillator.
Put the elevator between springs, and measure the frequency of its oscillations. The time of the period is T=2π∙√k/m, so m=4π²∙k/T², where k is the spring constant.

I can explain how it works but it will take a lot of time.
