| I just accidentally clicked on infinity shortcut link - it's next to SEs and I think they are in the same situation that SE site was a few weeks ago: http://www.infinity-universe.com/

| I don't like to revive very old threads, but did you looked at the latest I-Novae Engine videos? (that's basically Infinity)
That's awesome! It seems like they're finally starting to have some serious progress.
The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

| Indeed, but I'm not ready to start throwing in money yet. This thing's been vaporware for years, and they're going to need to produce something other than a flyover cinematic to convince us a real game is imminent.

| SE, in my opinion, graphically isn't even close to their engine. They have an entire team working on it and years more development.

| I just watched the video on their new Kickstarter page and, reports on their engine's sophistication aside, what I actually saw didn't impress me: Graphically, SE is at least on par with if not superior to what was in that video. I didn't see any gameplay mechanics whatsoever. The entire video was just a big cinematic cutscene. The spaceship physics were unimpressively unrealistic. In fact it was strongly reminiscent of Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous. I'm not demanding any given game have hardcore physics to earn my respect, but the market is already saturated with space combat "sims" that are really "magic fighter plane dogfighting sims". Where are the orbital laser cannons? Why were the engines constantly on despite being in space? Surely we can get ONE space combat game featuring hard sci-fi combat (hard as in plausible, not difficult).
I'll continue to hold out hope they actually make something awesome, but I don't have a lot of confidence about it. Definitely not enough to throw my money in the pot.

| Given what is already or almost already available (Elite: Dangerous, Star Citizen, No Mans Sky), I'd say they are well behind competition. I have been following I-Novae and their vapourwire project infinity:the quest for earth for quite some time now. I was impressed 5 -6 years ago. But now? meh.. even SE is more impressive given the fact that it is a one man project. True their graphics are ahead of SE but only just. SE can achieve a similar level of graphics quality in short time (I want to believe - fingers crossed). But what gives an edge to SE IMO is its scale: 10 gigaparsec3 universe with billions of galaxies x infinitillions of systems vs one sol system ? Come on - why should I bother

| Quote n0b0dy ( ) one sol system ?
One system? What game has one system? If I recall the I-Novae people said it was a galaxy or more.

These may be rendered to hide loading, but it doesn't change the fact that it is far more detailed than SE.

| Quote DoctorOfSpace ( ) These may be rendered to hide loading, but it doesn't change the fact that it is far more detailed than SE. It is not about details at all, it is about feature implementation. Space Engine is about space mostly and what it does better than anything is rendering of stares, galaxies and such. Infinity, for the recent years, is oriented towards land generation and features and therefore has more graphic-oriented shaders, such as - better shadows, better water textures, tweaked terrain, smoother transition between detail levels, ring landscape generation (not realistic one). Otherwise the game has amount of details far lower then that of SE, and I hope Engineer can eventually implement these features to improve the quality of the game.
And finally, the game has taken a completely different path compared to "space exploration" theme, as if it is trying to hop into another bandwagon than it was intended for in the first place. Which is very much disappointing.
They should really work on their particle systems for weapons and explosions.

From their Kickstarer page:

I second Aerospacefag's answer on that.
