Some 1½ year old by now, I think, but was aimed at the future when I bought it.

i7 950 overclocked at 3.6GHz
12 GB DDR3
Nvidia GTX 580 1.5GB
1.750 TB HD, Seagates
120 GB SDD
Steinberg CI 2 (used to have a Emu 1212m, but it doesn't work in Windows 7....yet...)
1000W
Noctua NH-D14 Cooler as well as some others.

I used to play a bit more back in the day than I do these days, but I still find myself updating to "gaming" systems. Probably in the hope that I'll one day be playing a lot more again - it's not really like I don't have the time. The interest has just faded with time, even if I do enjoy games like Skyrim and so on.

I had only £500 or $787 to build my pc with, it runs SE and other games full speed with full graphics

Fx 8120 black edition over-clocked to 5GHz (5.4GHz with 2 cores disabled) with homebuilt water cooling
8GB 1866mhz dual channel ram
over-clocked HD6770 2gb with diy water cooling

other parts were bought as cheap and tacky as possible

WHY?!!? Overheating? Unstable? It's like, "I have an awesome processor, let me make it slower!"

I know this doesn't answer your question, but sometimes clock speed can be more valuable than multiple cores, depending on the software you're running.

Nobody here is more under-equipped than me.

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce Go 6100
RAM: 1 GB
HDD: 120 GB internal, 320 GB external.
OS: Windows XP SP3

This laptop is barely enough to run COD4 on Windows 7.

Also, because of my sucky GPU, I can't even run Space Engine. SpaceEngineer, would you mind porting it to OpenGL 2.1, instead of OpenGL 3.0?

for when I play minecraft, it is horrendously slow with extra gsgl shaders if i don't over-clock and disable cores since minecraft is only a one threaded application it will only use one of my eight cores, all modern proffessional programs should be multi-threaded, since most people have more than one core nowadays

I can run it (sort of) and I'm on a dual core with half the GHz that you have.

My last laptop was nearly as bad as that. It has 250 GB internal, the same processor, and a Geforce Go 7150m. Although it did have 4 GB RAM, it was nearly useless.

Buy a new computer. Or laptop, if you like portability, like me.

You can't replace the GPU in a laptop. Even if you could the other components would still bottleneck the hell out of your system.

No, I mean for my desktop motherboard. It's around the same power as my laptop, but if I put in a better GPU, a lot of applications might run better.
