I seriously hope they intend to actually improve the ATI/AMD drivers.

| Quote anonymousgamer ( ) With the new GTX 970 and 980 I don't really see a reason to buy any other card unless you simply can't afford it. too expensive

That's pretty impressive! So how does it work? Are you satisfied with your choices Son? Does it perform as you wished?

| Yes, for the most part I am satisfied. Unfortunately my GPU "broke" the day I posted these specs, so now I have a GTX 970 on the way. I had to RMA the R9 290X twice before I was sent a 290X that would last more than a couple of days. The latest one (3rd card) lasted for 4 months or so, but in the end failed much too early than it should have.

| Just changed my ≈5 year old monitor. The new one doesn't quite have Full HD, (1680x1050), but it has 75 Hz, 3 ms faster response time, and 3 times the contrast.
Overall very happy with the upgrade.
EDIT: And it also cost about $20, which is nice.

| My PC runs pretty much anything, got to love AMD's unbeatable performance and prices. (especially at higher resolutions)
CPU: Intel® Core i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.6GHz Memory: 16384MB RAM GPU: R9 290x 8gb HDD: several, 2 SSDs, 1 500gb Hard drive, and one 3 TB hard drive SSD: 250gb, Space engine installed Monitor: Over clocked to 69 hertz refresh rate 1920x1080 ^ AMD's new Virtual Super Resolution I run the game at 4k resolutions (creating surprisingly superior image quality compared to super sampling at any AA rate) - Plus all my screen shots are rendered in 4k making for much higher quality Screen shots for backgrounds
Combine this with mantle and you're getting all kinds of extra performance, in scenes of high density and load mantle gives me around a 50%(or more) FPS increase. Plus I don't need to rely on the outdated DirectX Perhaps when 'SpaceEngine gets a hold of his AMD GPUs he would be interested in adding mantle support to space engine although that would be a lot of work it could be worth it. I'm not complaining though I run it just fine as is.

My experience with AMD speaks to the contrary, in fact all evidence points to the fact that Nvidia is the winner when it comes to price, performance, and resolution.

In my opinion, AMD is better for low-mid range cards for a good price, but Nvidia is much better for high-range ones, like the GTX 980.
My card (AMD Radeon HD 6950) was very cheap compared to similar Nvidia cards.

| Jsut bought this and it is a beast!
Running 3840x1080 (dual monitor Nvidia Surround), LOD is set to 1.6, FXAA on, Bloom On, Basically everything is on and FPS at planet surface is ~30, in deep space is ~60 (Vsync is on) and it runs soo fluid and smooth
I checked video memory consumption after a few mins of play (after visiting planet surface and panning left-right) and it was about 4.5 gigs out of 6 , so I guess I did the right thing because a friend was suggesting to go for a 970 with 4 gigs VRAM but it appears that SE actually can take advantage of more than 4gigs of VRAM , I checked SE log and it said total amount of video memory 6144 MB, usable 57-8xx something MB so it can ''see'' more than 4 gigs of VRAM but only up to 4 gigs of Main RAM as expected for a 32bit app.
I was surpised to see that it can recognize more than 4 gigs VRAM as it is a 32bit app, but then again I am no expert on these things but all-in-all I am a very happy SE user

| I wouldn't go so far to call it "good", decent maybe. You shouldn't have any issues running SpaceEngine on a 750 and other games will easily run in medium/high in 1080.

I have no issues running SpaceEngine (or any other game, really) 1920x1080 windowed with a "lower" card.
