I wanted to include more but there is a limit of 10 poll options. I removed the series which I think would be unlikely first pick candidates. Most of the show are recent except for Dr Who Old.

Short listed shows.

Star Gate ATL
First Wave
V Old
Dr Who New
Red Dawf New
Red Dawf Old
Lost in space
Lexx
Buck Rogers
BSG Old
Star Trek TOS
Star Trek TNG
Sliders
Quantum Leap

I will vote DS9 but only because it had some real character development and made you loathe the ending, not because it was bad but because it ended.

Doctor who, both old and new I enjoy. All of star trek, even that monstrosity called Enterprise, I enjoyed. Stargate was pretty good.

You left out one of the best Sci-fi/horror/drama shows

You're missing the best one of all...

cry

Also, how do many of these shows count as "semi-recent"? Some debuted 30, 40, even 50+ years ago!

And how did Voyager and Enterprise beat out TNG? What was the logic by which you decided which shows would make the cut?

Sorry I had to make some assumptions to come up with a list and only listed shows that I knew about. I totally forgot about X-Files and I do not know about firefly. I think the new Dr Who is pretty bad, I thought I would put the old Dr Who in instead. Semi Recent I thought would be from 20 years old.

Looks like DS9 is running in front, I think that was best also, but only from about Season 4 onwards when the Dominion showed up. I though DS9 S01-S03 was very bad but it make up for itself in the latter seasons.

I thought it was pretty bad until season 3 also when I first watched it, but when I watched it again I liked it a lot more because I knew the characters and so could look past the flaws in writing and acting more easily.

I do not know about firefly

You must go fix that right now, do not come back onto this forum until you have seen every episode cool (unfortunately there were not many).

Then why were so many older shows under consideration for the poll?

DS9 the pilot episode was good, but some eps from those early eps were very cringe worthy such as "bable" & "move along home".

Yes some of the shows I considered were older than 20 years, but were redone recently so I though it would be worthwhile to also see if people preferred the old over the new. I bunged up lost in space thou, that should never have been considered.

Ok, I will check firefly out some time soon.

Firefly is freaking fantastic. It also spawned a movie Serenity which is one of my all-time favorite films. smile

The new BSG series was also good, though it got pretty soapy and silly after season 3. Liked it a lot better than the original at least.

Serenity is ok, but I don't like it as much since it was just a little too different from the series for me to love it the same way (had to watch it a few times to really notice).

I stopped liking it after season 2. It was in most ways better than the original, but you have to admit that the original theme song was pretty amazing (and the ship models as well).

God, I really hate Fox for cancelling Firefly, it would be so awesome if Josh whedon got it back up and running again, kickstarter maybe? I would totally pledge!

A very hard choice between DS9, Babylon 5, and Enterprise, but I voted DS9 in the end.

B5 was good. I thought ENT was pretty bad. If I had to pick 1-3, it would be DS9, VOY then SG1.

I saw firefly, I remember I watched a few eps of it awhile ago, I did not like it, I did not like any of the characters in it.

surprised Firefly had fantastic characters! I don't see how anyone could not like them sad Maybe you just saw some off episodes, Firefly is a show that is really best watched in order, I might even go so far as to say that it's essential.

I liked the new BSG because it was dark, it wasn't, lets go explore and be happy! Rather it was slightly more realistic, in terms of the violence, prejudice and power struggle.

Precisely why I didn't much like it. I hate the way the world is, and if a story strongly mirrors reality then I want nothing to do with it, I get enough of reality in real life. I watch shows and read books and play games to escape to a different world, not just more of the same.

My vote would be Firefly, without a doubt. I loved every character in that show, and the writing was fantastic.

BSG would be my second vote, though I only watched the first season and a half.
