| 930m/s isn't fast enough of an air speed to cause immediate incineration (though it'd certainly be lethal), and the speed also decreases as the cosine of the latitude. If you were within 1 degree of the poles the fling would even be survivable.

That's nearly mach 3. You wouldn't catch on fire, but you would probably be burned. Aircraft traveling at that speed above more than 90% of the atmosphere need to be constructed with heating in mind. I would imagine that the heating caused by being at sea level would be a bit more than at 20 kilometers high. It would last for a short time since you would rapidly slow to terminal velocity, but I should think it would be sufficient to cause burns.

| Oh, yeah, I don't doubt there'd be some thermal burns. At Mach 3 heating effects start to become very important in aircraft design, but as you said altitude and duration have to be considered, too. I'd really have to be more knowledgeable on the physics of aerodynamic heating and drag to be able to conclude more than that.
...this has turned into quite a bizarre physics conversation. So to get back on topic, here's a video of a Parrot dancing Gangnam Style.

| I got one of those SD cards with wifi yesterday, and I soon discovered that it has an ARM926 CPU with 32MB RAM running Linux and found a way to enable telnet and get root access. With 32GB flash on the card almost anything can be compiled and run on this little thing. This is the smallest truly general purpose computer that I have. It's a pretty cool concept, I think.  Not that much more expensive than a regular 32GB card either. The wifi range sucks, though.
I'm thinking of putting this card into a 1920x1080 dashcam which records continuously, and using this card I can download the video as it's written to the card by the camera. It could work for fireball monitoring. Obviously, the CPU on the card itself is too weak to do live analysis of 1080p30 video, but perhaps in a few years it will be possible to do everything on such a card. The computing power probably roughly corresponds to a typical 1994 486SX PC, just with slightly more RAM, higher clock speed, and a hell of lot more fast external storage [32 GB would probably be close to the total amount of shared disk available at my university at that time].
I bought my first Linux PC in 1993. It was a 33 MHz 486DX with 16 MB RAM (considered luxury) and a 200 MB hard drive. Fairly bleeding edge at the time.
