So I was driving into town this morning to renew my passport, and suddenly felt really off -- heart-burn, labored breathing, and profuse salivation that rapidly grew in severity. Heart-attack like symptoms. "Well, this isn't good..." I see a dental office and immediately pulled into the lot and told the receptionist I was having a medical emergency. She called EMT and I ran to the restroom and proceeded to vomit. Dentist rushed in and administered oxygen. I'm pale as a ghost, hyperventilating, and on the verge of passing out. EMT arrives and checks me out. Pulse is good, pressure is very low but recovering. I'm not having a heart attack. I throw up some more and slowly feel better.

Turns out I wasn't getting enough fluids lately and was severely dehydrated. Back at home and pretty much fully recovered now, but that was really scary. Stay hydrated, friends.

Stay hydrated, friends.

Wow. Dehydration can trigger a number of things, it seems.

Dehydration has triggered migraine a couple times for me. I nearly turn blind and deaf and blood pressure drops, then get overrun by nausea and a slight headache. I get it once every few years, but I know what it is and it passes completely in 2-3 hours and it seems to become more mild in recent years. Perhaps I just recognise and react to the early signs sooner. It starts with flickering vision and blind spots, so once I experience that, I drink water and lay down if I can, and perhaps that eases the next stages.
