As I see from here, the next problem that needs to be solved is uncotroled spining in upper atmosphere and control problems. It's just to unpredictable and dangerous. Felix is very expirienced sky-diver obviusly and he menaged that spin situation. Maybe he was even very good prepared for that scenario, mentaly.
There was no word about, but I guess that the next step is to attach some small drag-chute that will act as stabiliser... and from even higher altittudes as speed control.
Jump from orbital speed is impossible without serious heat shielding, that's for sure.
Anyway congrats to Felix and RBS team.

A ballute would be useful for higher altitude jumps. Parachutes become ineffective at very high altitudes and airspeeds, which is what ballutes are designed for.

I really don't know how to respond to this. At first I thought it had to be fake, but apparently I'm wrong. It's not unbelievable- mistakes like this happen every so often.
What I can't figure out is how it happened. Was it a simple mistake, or a joke? The NBC employee who typed this in couldn't be that stupid. A person ignorant enough not to know the difference between the speed of sound and light is not the kind of person I would expect to be working somewhere in the technical dept. of a news organization, of all places. Perhaps I'm over-thinking this, but then again, am I?
...it's still kind of funny, though; kind of like that whole incident where they thought neutrinos had traveled faster than the speed of sound.
Back on topic, YouTube was working for me, fortunately. To me the most interesting thing was the jump itself: it was stunning. He just fell straight down. I've never seen anything like it!

I know. What was stunning is that it was a human being that dropped from a capsule at the edge of space. It's not exactly something you see every day- or decade.

That was my first thought as well. But many LCD screens have a delay before they come up (including my monitor, which takes 5 or 6 seconds to turn on :/ )
