Bit disconcerting that out of all those AV programs only Avast is the one that can detect it. Even worse is the fact this thing has been floating around for nearly a month.

Well, that list is a week old, so, maybe there's more. Antza said that he uses Avast, so if he has the latest AV definitions, that should detect it.

I do, and it's not finding anything.
it automatically terminates the connection if a virus is being downloaded.

I deleted the WinMonitor.exe but am currently running a bunch of scans on my PC. Until Microsoft Security gets an update I don't think I will be reconnecting and risking it downloading again.

| Well, I did an update for Microsoft Security Essentials and am running a full scan now. Also did a quick and critical point scan with SUPERAntiSpyware and other than a bunch of tracking cookies, it didn't find anything. I'm also running a full scan with the antispyware since it can catch things that the usual antivirus doesn't.

I had Avast but I continually got infected and a few friends recommended Microsoft Security Essentials (this is not windows security garbage).
With Avast I got infected 6 times in a row with some fake anti virus program that kept disabling avast and blocking me from websites. This is the first time with MSE that I've been infected that I know of, besides the occasional tracking cookie.

i used to use F-Secure, which was just one fascist program. It didn't let me do anything and it blocked many online games. Once i switched to Avast, i have never even considered changing to anything else. It's so good and easy to use. (also, it's free.  )

| Also, for MSE (or any other AV program), I would recommend getting an antispyware program (SUPERAntiSpyware is a great one) to catch the tracking cookies and whatever MSE doesn't catch. Plus MSE doesn't seem to detect tracking cookies anyway.
