| Quote HarbingerDawn ( ) Great photo of the launch
You know that image you posted, i was worried that huge plume of smoke were gonna cause the rocket to explode. I think they at SpaceX was a bit worried of that, but they were pretty lucky that it were not gonna ruin the rocket. That would be catastrophic.

| Quote Chris94 ( ) i was worried that huge plume of smoke were gonna cause the rocket to explode It wasn't smoke, it was dirty water. And while it is odd that a plume of dirty water sprayed up at launch, it was hardly a threat to the rocket. Some water moving at 50 m/s poses no risk of entering an engine with jets of dense plasma coming out of it at 2730 m/s.

| Some video footage of the first stage "landing" in the ocean has been released!
http://www.spacex.com/news/2014/04/29/first-stage-landing-video
The quality is horrible, which isn't at all surprising given the conditions, but it is possible to generally see what's happening if you know how to look at it (i.e. watch it several times). I've found that the best experience comes from the "raw" version on Youtube, while looking near the top of the screen and not focusing on anything in particular. Using this method you can easily see the tops of the clouds at the beginning, the ocean when it comes out of the clouds, the ocean surf, the spray of water kicked up by the engine, and the horizon and sky as the vehicle starts to fall over after splashdown. In the "repaired" version you can also see the landing legs in a few frames.
Two of the best frames:

| There was a rumour yesterday (apparently sourced from L2 on NASASpaceflight.com - and hence hastily deleted) on Reddit that the fuel lines to the rocket were "tangled", and the rocket had to be de-fueled in order for workers to safely approach and fix the issue. This ate into the time for the test fire yesterday.
Make of that what you will.
Why that would prevent the test fire today... well, the only thing I can think of - and this sounds crazy-stupid - is that maybe someone plugged the fuel lines into the wrong tanks, and the tanks will need to be scrubbed clean before re-fueling... really stupid, as I said.

In addition to the "tangled lines" story I referenced above, the second test-fire for the Orbcomm launch was scrubbed because of a structural defect, possibly a rupture, in a hydrogen Helium tank. The tank had to be removed from the rocket and shipped back to California for testing, leading to the scrubbed stand-by launch.
EDIT:
Reddit user Inverted_Strawberry has done a remarkable job of cleaning up the CRS-3 First Stage landing video:
SpaceX's best effort, versus inverted_strawberry's work.

| Yep, that's exactly what I meant. I had both elements dithering back and forth in my head, I just decided to pick one and post - was too tired for Google. Bad move.
In newer news: NSF admin Chris Bergin has indicated that the May 27th OrbComm launch date is likely only a placeholder, and that the actual launch will be delayed into mid-June.

| The reconstruction of the landing video continues apace. Here's an awesome (10 meg) gif of the moment the rocket plume contacts the water's surface: Or a smaller 579k HTML5 animation of the same frames.
And on the subject of CRS-3 and water:
There are reports of some kind of water-leakage post-splashdown in the returned Dragon capsule.
In other news:
The OrbComm launch now has a new launch target time:
Quote OrbComm site via Redditor Jimjxr Our OG2 Mission 1 launch is now targeted for June 11 with a back-up date of June 12. We will be sending the satellite launch teams from both ORBCOMM and Sierra Nevada Corporation to the Cape the first week of June for fairing encapsulation followed by a static fire test to be conducted two to three days prior to launch.
SpaceX are currently investigating the helium leak in the first stage, and that investigation still has the potential to delay the launch further.
