Astronomers have finally found direct proof that almost all water present in Jupiter's stratosphere, an intermediate atmospheric layer, was delivered by comet Shoemaker-Levy 9, which famously struck the planet in 1994.

| Jupiter has to be in my opinion THE most beautiful planet in the Solar System,
only because of the beauty of it's clouds and the fact you can discern from the
images the different layers and depths of the clouds, so you almost get a
3 dimensional glimpse of how it'd look in RL.
Io is definitely my fav moon... sooo beautiful

| Found an interesting article today about the Great Red Spot's shrinking. It would be a shame if the spot disappeared, it's such an iconic feature.

| Does anyine know if there are any pictures that show the 3d structure of jupiters clouds? At least the upper layers? It would be really cool if we could somehow have proper bump-maps of jupiter clouds...  (sorry if this has been asked/dicussed before - I have a gut feeling that it has)

It has, and no I don't think we really have any such pictures. The clouds are not tall enough relative to the resolution of images that we have to have noticeable heights. Anyway, there's not such thing as a "proper bump map" for Jupiter's clouds, since they're constantly changing anyway, and gathering height information about the clouds at the same time as color/albedo information is nearly impossible, and not something you should expect to see for many decades at least.

You don't, he was being sarcastic to make a point. These are generally NASA images, they are in the public domain. Those processed by non-NASA people are generally released under a creative commons license.
