| Hi, this is my first post here. I've been active a few years ago in the Orbiter community, making texture addons to enhance the aesthetics of the simulator. Space Engine is simply amazing, a dream come true. I thought some of the textures could use some artistic overhaul, so i went and made a new model for M104 and S0 galaxies, basing on NGC 7049 and a few other lenticular galaxies. It came out nice so i thought I'll share it. Here are some screenshots:
Make sure to delete the cache folder after installation. The texture files are here: www.deviantart.com/download/7787857418240049/m104_by_mcwgogs-d5to7kn.zip all go to the \data\textures\galaxies folder And the \data\models\galaxies\Hubble file needs to be edited so the M 104 entry is this: Code GalaxyModel "S0" // M 104 model { Method "SpiralGalaxy" Position (0, 0, 0) Radius (1.0, 0.5, 0.3) // (disk radius, bulge radius, bulge thickness) BBoxRes (10, 10, 10)
SpriteObliquityZ 0.5
floatLOD 0 // 0 = false LODbase 1
FrontTexture "M104.*" SysTexture "M104_sys.*" FrontImage "M104_small.*" SideImage "S0_side.*"
emParticleColor (0.7, 0.7, 0.7) absParticleColor (0.2, 0.1, 0.0) bParticleColor (0.46, 0.42, 0.40) BulgeRadius (1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
emDetailR 0.3 emDetailZ 0.3 absDetailR 0.8 absDetailZ 0.6 bDetailR 0.4 bDetailZ 0.4
emParticleDispR 0.8 emParticleDispZ 0.8 absParticleDispR 0.3 absParticleDispZ 0.3 bParticleDispR 0.9 bParticleDispZ 0.8
emParticleSizeCenter 4.0 emParticleSizeEdge 3.2 absParticleSizeCenter 2.2 absParticleSizeEdge 2.2 bParticleSizeCenter 4.0 bParticleSizeEdge 4.0
emParticleMinBrightCenter 0.5 emParticleMinBrightEdge 0.01 absParticleMinBrightCenter 0.1 absParticleMinBrightEdge 0.1 bParticleMinBrightCenter 0.4 bParticleMinBrightEdge 0.3
emParticleBrightnessCenter 0.11 emParticleBrightnessEdge 0.1 absParticleBrightnessCenter 1.0 absParticleBrightnessEdge 2.0 bParticleBrightnessCenter 0.6 bParticleBrightnessEdge 0.1 }
Edit: This model is already included in patch 0.9.6.2

| Absolutely gorgeous. A tip for everyone installing this: delete your Cache folder, as there's a good chance your Sombrero galaxy will end up looking like a hybrid of the standard model and this awesome improvement otherwise (it happened to me).

| Does anyone know how to correct the Galaxy's orientation?
Even after deleting the cache, it looks like this from Earth in my 0.96.1:
Hardly the iconic side-on shot we know and love.
Astroniki obviously knows how, given the first screenshot in the thread!

| Yes the galaxy in the catalog is not oriented properly. (That's not even M104 on the screenshots, just some random S0 galaxy using the same model. To orient the galaxy properly you need to open the \data\catalogs\galaxies\galaxies10k.sc with wordpad or something, find the entry for M104 and change the orientation so it reads;
Quat (104.7827, 0.8718392, -0.3028268, -0.3849576)
That should orient the galaxy about right.

| I have noticed that in 0.96 there are quite a few galaxies that are not oriented properly (M 51 being another prominent example), even though the orientation parameters are identical to 0.95. Very peculiar...
Anyway, nice model

| I like to include this addon to the next patch (with some modifications - fixed sysbsystems texture, etc) What do you think?

| I think that would be great; it looks very good, and much better than the standard Sombrero model (which I've always thought didn't look quite right).

| Ok, can you send me a front RGBA texture in tga or photoshop format? I can't open it in Photoshop correctly (it always multiply alpha on RGB!) to fix dust intensity and make correct sybsystems model based on dust channel.

| First I wanna say that I really like this model , especialy the glow, really good job astroniki. But why not rename this model as NGC 7049 ? It just fit perfectly.

| Your download is broken, can you re-upload your files so people can download them?

| Quote (Crashman1390) Your download is broken, can you re-upload your files so people can download them? I've fixed the link. This galaxy is already included if you have patch 0.9.6.2
Quote (Solaris) But why not rename this model as NGC 7049 ? It just fit perfectly. I made this as an general S0 galaxy model, rather than a specific galaxy.
