Here's a new more natural looking model of the Milky Way.

For the people that want to install this great mod:

I like how it looks from the interior of the galaxy but I don't like how it looks from outside (different size and looks like another angle of the galactic plane).

Here you have a before and after.

It is a good galaxy model, but I tend to agree with FastFourierTransform about it.

Actually the old one does look better when you make a comparison. :P

I like the new one quite a lot, it's a beautiful texture, but it does have some drawbacks compared to the old one:

  • The bulge is less pronounced (it should be brighter; perhaps not an issue in-engine due to how galaxies are rendered) and its color looks a bit off.
  • The color saturation in general is too high, the whiter color of the old spiral arms was more realistic (the MW is very red compared to most spiral galaxies).
_ _*While I do think the colors could be made more realistic, they are very aesthetically pleasing as they are.
  • The bar, while more pronounced in this version (which I like), does not seem integrated with the rest of the galactic structure, it almost looks like it was added as an afterthought.

On the plus side, the new spiral arm structure, new nebulae, and new dust look great.

I know how hard it is to make galaxy models, especially from scratch, so in no way do I hold any of the above issues against you. It's an amazing texture. I just wanted to give the best feedback I could. Also, I haven't examined it in SE yet, so this feedback relates only to the texture itself, not to the model.

I worked a bit more on it. How's this? (This is is with exposure set at 2)
Kinda hard to make a nice central bar with the way spaceengine renders the core particles as a round blob.

I like it a lot smile Yes, getting the central bar to look good with sprites rendering on top of it is very difficult, hopefully this will be changed someday.

If you upload the model soon it could be used as the new default.
