| I have just created three scripts that allow us to display the newly discovered exoplanets, with their stars (in case those are not in the SE yet). I got all the info from http://exoplanet.eu/catalog/, and some fields were empty. In those case, those characteristics were left empty for SE to generate them proceduraly.
This is my first addOn, so it may have some errors. Please let me know so I can fix it.

Also, I was wondering if anybody has any star catalog (that specifies the star Name, Mass, Radius, RA, Desc, Distance and Class) in .txt or .xls formar to give me or let me know where can I download, so I can create a script to add it to SE. It doesn't matter if there are thousands of stars, I made a small program that creates script itself.

you can download the Tycho-2 catalog at ftp://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/pub/cats/I/259
You can find the description of the files at http://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/Cat?I/259#sRM-F.78
The catalog is a set of compressed .dat files, but these are only text files.

| ketos, Thank you, I just downloaded it. One question, How can I open or access those files? Because when I try to open it with notepad++ or similars, I just see a lot of simbols. I need the catalog in .txt o .xls to be able to use the converter I wrote to make the scripts.

| If you mean the gz-files, .gz is a compressed file similar to .zip, often used in linux. I think 7Zip or similar Software could unpack them.
I have opened the .dat files with Sublime-Text 3 but i guess every other editor can read them too, because they are plain text.

| Thanks ketos, I have it now, but unfortunately I can't figure out how is organized that file. I only understand that the first number is the name of the star, but I have no idea what the other rows means. Thank you anyway.

| http://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/Cat?I/259#sRM2.1 list all Rows, their meanings and units, every row is separated with a '|' in the database. I hope that helps you.

| ketos, Everything was just fine, but there is no reference to the distance from each star on the catalog to earth... So I can't do it. All other data (name, RA, Dec, Magnitude) is there. I guess I will have to keep looking.

| When distances have not been determined by other means, exoplanet catalogs sometimes approximate stellar distances using the Stefan-Boltzmann Law.
This uses the star temperature (usually well known) and radius (often not well known) to calculate a Luminosity. Then, using apparent magnitude (usually well known), you can derive a distance.
Hanno Rein does this on his Open Exoplanet Catalogue. Just click the "Distance (pc)" checkbox.
Graciously, gpaw5765 already wrote the derivation of the Stefan-Boltzman distance relation this thread.
A regularly updated catalog of all confirmed exoplanets and Kepler candidates would be an incredible addition to this amazing software. Thanks for having interest in this.

| Webdog, thank you for your observation! I'm trying to update tha catalog once every 2 months, but I'm waiting for the new release to do the next update. About stellar distances, it was about a script for the Tychos-2 catalog, but it is too big for now. It would have to wait a little bit longer.
