Post all your lens flares and ghost mods and updates here!

I'll start with an update to the hexagonal 0.95 flare and an overhaul of the Eden flare.
Installation: move the downloaded file to SpaceEngine 0.97/textures/flares

Chromatic lens flares

When you install it, it's name is "Colorful." Best name I had for it...





Desktop: FX-8350 4.0 GHz, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW 8 GB, 2 TB HDD, 24 inch 1920x1080 screen

I've re-made the old EVEolution flare! Took me two days of tinkering to get it to this level. I've made some attempts with the ghosts but due to SE's sort of limited ghost system I can't produce the effects I'd like to, so ghosts are unavailable - they look pretty bad in their current state.

Installation and usage instructions:
Download EVEolution.rar located in the attachment below, extract and place the two files into SpaceEngine 0.97/textures/flares. Select the EVEolution flare from the graphics menu (Shift + F4) and enjoy.

I think I'm done with anamorphic flares..

As a historical note, I'd like to point out that this flare was used in every version earlier than and including 0.94. 0.95 introduced a new texture and new flare system.

EDIT: The size of the flare seems small to me. Anyone else who feels the same way can change the ScaleAll parameter to 0.7, or perhaps larger depending on personal preference.

I've just figured out that having auto exposure enabled and increasing the flare's size scales the flare much better depending on the distance from the star.

By the way, don't forget that you can always increase the size in the graphics menu (for those who never want bother around the script)! biggrin

I personally find that to be too bothersome, so I just fix the script so I never have to change anything in the future smile

Also, your NostalgicGlow texture works quite well as a star flare texture! I'll put an optimized version of it in the appropriate thread.

There is really one thing it lacks, as I said before, if you use asymmetrical shapes for ghosts it's impossible to make them rotate so the same side always faces the center of the flare. I used to call it ''tidal locked'' ghosts back in the beta

Here's my try at making a lens flare:


WIP, but this is a chromatic abberated lens flare (as I quite like this effect). More ghosts to come, maybe in different colors and size.

Here is a finished first version: 50mm Anamorphic Flares (19.4 Mb)

It contains an anamorphic flare, anamorphic ghosts, and a dirt texture. There is two ghosts config files because you may not like it, and it only goes to 1080p resolution. Above that you will have a square with the dirt and nothing on the edges.
