| After a long delay, finally the first release of my Homeworld universe addon. This first version contains the Kharak system, the Hiigaran system, and the Great Nebula (a.k.a. the Garden of Kadesh). All objects are accurately placed within M 51 (the Whirlpool galaxy), which is the galaxy that the Homeworld story is set in.
Includes: Kharak system with all 7 planets and 2 moons of Haarsuk. Hiigara system with all 6 planets and 1 moon. Garden of Kadesh with custom nebula model.
Download
Installation: 1) Extract the folders in the archive into your SE directory and merge them with the existing folders. 2) Follow the instructions in the readme file to install the nebula model, database info, and activate the addon in the universe.cfg file.
Notes: The names Ka'nah and Shinn'a for Kharak's and Hiigara's suns are just random names I gave them a long time ago and have no basis in canon. All other specified object names are canon. Nothing in this release should be considered final and everything is subject to possible future update. The star flare bouncing around inside the systems is normal and is a consequence of placing a catalog star so far from Sol. It's only a cosmetic effect, the systems themselves work fine. You can disable stars motion blur or set it to moving only to make it less noticeable. If you don't want the Kadeshi nebula model to be used for other nebulae in SE, you must comment out/remove the UseForType parameter in the model script.
This addon is a work in progress. Updates will (hopefully) be made periodically.

| Quote (spacer) space engine Crash for me after i run it Could you be a little more specific? Under what circumstances does it crash? Are you using asynchronous loading? Post your se.log file. I hate to say this, but you really should know these things by now.

| Homeworld in Space Engine... OH... MY... GOD!!! O_O
If this works you will be my new hero... Do you think that we will ever have a few ships? I just love Homeworld universe. n_n Trying it now!
EDIT: Works fine for me. =) Hiigara and Angel moon are great, but Kharak... Kharak is superb! Even Majiirian Sea and the other water masses are there, right where they should. Great work, HarbingerDawn. This is simply beautiful and heart touching for the Homeworld saga fans.

| Glad I could contribute I love Homeworld, and SE is the perfect tool to help bring it to life. Kharak was very hard to do and it still isn't perfect, but it's the best I could do and I'm fairly surprised I got it as good as I did.
Quote (Drawnin) Do you think that we will ever have a few ships? I've toyed with the idea of porting some ships in, but I'm bad at porting ships so I don't know if I can do it. Maybe if I can get someone to help me we can get some HW ships in SE. It's a dream of mine

| The only thing I would change a bit is Ka'nah's colour. In the original Homeworld, the star of Kharak system was slightly blue. But maybe it is difficult to give it that colour in SE while keeping it a very tiny star...
Anyway, if I ever learn how to create ships, I'll surely try to model a few based in Homeworld universe. With this add-on, it could be just delicious to follow the path from Kharak to Hiigara and view it from inside the bridge of a high-res Mothership!

| Quote (Drawnin) The only thing I would change a bit is Ka'nah's colour. In the original Homeworld, the star of Kharak system was slightly blue. I originally had it bluer than it is, but changed it for a few reasons. First, there is no realistic way that the star could actually be very blue. Second, the planets would look wrong under the light of a blue star, especially Kharak. Also, upon closer examination in-game it was really more whitish and it was just the glare/surrounding space that was bluish, except in the second mission which depicted it as being very blue for artistic reasons I'll bet, to make it seem cold and distant. So I made the star as white as possible without it edging too far into bluish or reddish.

| I suspected there would be reasons like that ones. Nothing to say, then. And you're right, I also wouldn't like a "blue" Kharak anyway...

| Well, take a look at these screenshots. This is what convinced me that a white/yellow-white Kharak sun was ok:
^ Space is blue
^ Sun is white, almost yellowish
So it's correct as white, but you don't notice it until you're looking closely (which I never did before making this addon).

| True. Besides, light in the ship models is white too... I guess they just put the blue hue to give it a more colourist appearance. So it's OK if the star in SE is white. After all, Space Engine tries to be realistic.
By the way... that makes me think how would a place like Karos Graveyard look in SE? It would be amazing, with those huge structures in the background.

| Quote (Drawnin) By the way... that makes me think how would a place like Karos Graveyard look in SE? It actually hurts me to think about that HW was very, erm, artistic with its skyboxes, and anyway such massive structures could not be made in SE. I would like to make places such as Karos in SE, but I can't think of any way this could be done other than making a custom nebula which emulates the color and lighting of the area, which is not very useful.
What's worse is that most things in HW take place in deep space far from any known stars or planets, so there is not much that can be added. Most future additions to the addon will probably be my interpretations of planets mentioned in lore, like the Taiidan homeworld. I will add everything I can think of in the future though, including adding a lot more detail to the Hiigara and Kharak systems (more known moons, other plausible moons, known asteroid belts).

| Yes, I think postprocessing would be the only way to add those massive elements to the screenshots and stuff like that. But, hey... planets of Homeworld universe in SpaceEngine are way more than I was expecting this morning when I woke up.
Maybe someday we will have a couple ships to take on a stroll, or anything else, who knows... In any case, I'll surely keep an eye on this great add-on from now on. Thanks again.
