The day before this thread was posted I visited capella in SE and wondered how SE and Celestia go on together. So the day this was posted I did 2 screenshots of Cel and SE and put them together in MS paint.

Here's the screenshot.

EDIT: Or should I say Screenshot(s) lol

If you have both, feel free to post them here happy

Now, the catalogs for SpaceEngine cost a lot of work, are therefore by no means complete, so many stars that are actually double stars, are still single star in SE. But also Celestia is - regarding double stars - not really completely! wink

For me Capella looks in Celestia like this:

Or so:

Looks like you have a metric TON of mods on your celestia. I have a few too but these do not change the stars.

P.S. But SpaceEngineer would change the catalog to be real life like, and I do know how stars in SE work, even before that comment was made ;)

Milky way vs Milky way

What mods do you use?

JackDole, your Celestia is awesome! Those things you have (like H-R Diagram) are addons of new features?

The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

CPU: Intel Core i7 4770 GPU: ASUS Radeon R9 270 RAM: 8 GBs

(still don't know why everyone is doing this...)

Salvo,

these are addons:

- Lua Edu Tools 1.2 Beta8 (for Celestia 1.6.0)
- Lua Plug-Ins

But I have they adapted for my needs.

The addon for stereo views I made myself.

I have more screenshots:

In the last picture is to see the menu for one of my best pieces, a script that can run automatically a number of different trips.

But after all, this Forum about SpaceEngine, not Celestia. dry

connorneal2005,
it's been years that I have it all set up.

When you download add-ons at Celestia Motherlode; it is always with an installation guide.

But here's my .cfg file that I use for Lua Edu Tools. But it will not be much useful.

But, what do you want with such comparisons? Prove that apples are better than pears? Some people might prefer apples, others may prefer pears, and some people like both.

Didn't know it, in the end I figured it out biggrin Hope it works! :yahoo:

Outcome: "Error reading star database"

I thought I had to overwrite the current .cfg!

EDIT: Got it working biggrin

You can not use my .cfg. This should be just one example, so you can see what I've changed. But if you now have destroyed your .cfg, here is an original unmodified file. For Celestia 1.6.0.

In the .cfg for my 'Lua Edu Tools' installation I use a different 'StarDatabase' with 2 million stars.

As I said, it's been a while. I can not help you there.
I have it also not installed in a couple of hours and not in a few days.
You have to read the readme.txt file carefully, and also to see in the config.lua file.

Some comparisons SpaceEngine vs Celestia (no pictures):

Celestia:
- 8 installations
- Total size working directory: 14.8 GB
- Including: 13.3 GB add-ons - enabled and disabled.

SpaceEngine:
- 11 installations
- Total size working directory: 78.0 GB
- Including: 37 GB Official texture addons
- Including: 676 MB add-ons - enabled and disabled. I can enable and disable add-ons in SE as easily as in Celestia.

Sometime I have to clean up.

JackDole, did you ever try any of the late Celestia builds, like with new star shaders or the QT4 build with the new interface intended for the next version? So sad that development ended when it did, they were working on some cool stuff. At least the star shader Chris was working on got used in SE (kind of).

HarbingerDawn,
I use the latest SVN versions.

Do you know this site? http://forum.celestialmatters.org/

They attempt to create an enhanced version of Celestia, they call that 'Celestia.Sci'. But the development is very slow. And there is no public version.
