| I found some brown dwarfs orbiting a star. Are they really supposed to look like this? I mean, they are really beautiful in space engine, but they look more like gas giants than dead stars.

| Brown dwarfs basically are like giant planets, at least the smaller ones; the only difference is the amount of fusion in their cores and the light that they radiate. But ultimately we don't really know for sure what they look like as we have never seen one up close. Their appearance in SpaceEngine is a decent approximation.
But I agree, I would also like to see them with a bit more "personality".

| There are some pretty nice artists renderings on the wiki page for brown dwarfs:
They almost look like this already, but it would be neat to have their aesthetics more "random".

| I agree. The low-mass brown dwarfs look okay, but the larger ones should show more signs of thorough convection (i.e. star-like granulation) similar to the second wiki-pic. Probably something that will be added in a later version, brown dwarfs were only just introduced to the program on this release. With all the great work SpaceEngineer is putting into this program the future looks bright indeed

| You're right, I have no time to work on brown dwarfs at present. They are just gas giants rendered with a star shader. In a future version, I'll make them more natural looking, taking into account granulation and pink color (light absorption in its atmosphere).

| I see all the points being made here but....I think they look 100 percent badass. Especially with that eerie red glow that they shine on planets

| Note that lighting of planets is too bright compared to brown dwarf brightness - it is because SE normalizes lighting values on planets, so Mercury appears just as bright as Pluto. In a future version I'll make advanced autoexposure and real brightness of planets, taking into account sun lighting and planet albedo.
