A "sticky thread" means it is set to always be at the top of that forum section, even if there have not been recent replies. For example, if you view the Space Journeys subforum, you'll notice the Image dump thread, SE videos thread, and several others pinned up there. Forum rules are also stickied in every subforum.

A selection of my first 3 projects using this wonderful space simulator. All video's edited using Windows Live Movie Maker.
Hope you enjoy them just as much as I did making them.

That's pretty damn cool. I've not really played with adding mods, so if I downloaded a new space ship, I assume I just move that download into the space ships folder for SE?.
I'd love someone to make the USS Cygnus from the Disney film The Black Hole.

As long as the mod you download is for the correct version of the program it should work. All of my currently available ships will work with 0.9.7.2, 0.9.7.3, and 0.9.7.4 but obviously will not support many of the newer features recently added into 0.9.7.4. Installing them is simple and removing them is just as simple.

For your first video, this is quiet good. Not the usual 'fly through', but an informative one for a change. I like it.

My first attempt at a simi-non-crappy Space Engine video.

I would love any advice I can get from the pros here.

I felt the same way when I made my first SE video so don't worry.
Advice I would give (but you don't have to take it)....1. Try and keep your scenes down to around 10 or 15 seconds max as people can get bored looking at the same thing for too long...that's certainly no critisism on you first attempt btw.

2. Do a dry run of the clip you want to capture...run through it a few times until you think you got just what you need, that way, you don't have the speed increase showing on your screen...set a speed and just go for it, then pause the video capture and slow down and then press record again...you can get some really good effects doing it like this.

3. Before you make the left and right hand drop downs disappear, make sure that you do not have everything selected on the right hand one.....just keep it simple so you only have stars, planets, clouds, atmospheres and water enabled..If you already do this, then please ignore the last....if that is the case, you may want to click on settings on the left hand drop down and slide your L-O-D down a touch as the buffer wheel was visible in the top right which can be a pain...A lower L-O-D should rectify that wheel of doom. Oh, I have also found a great site to instantly download MP3 music called http://mp3freex.com.
It's great for when you are stuck for what music to put on your work. I've just used it for my lates video.

Happy days and keep up the great work.

Thanks for the advice Rebel. I will take them to heart biggrin

I have seen the single take videos pulled off quite well. The key I think is to make sure that every point in the path taken contains something interesting or promotes the emotion of the music.

This first attempt was a proof of concept and I used Windows Movie Maker which I'm not very fond of. Although it isn't bad for Free. I also I just threw the music in to fit the video length instead of having them work off of each other.

I've moved on to using Blender's video editing (also free) which gives me tons more options on the output quality and visual enhancements and effects.

This is my next work in progress using one of my favorite Jon Hopkins songs....

The fly-through was a rough run not really scripted, but I plan on hashing out the details of the flight path and rehearsing the hell out of it. Hopefully better and ever improving.
