As a result, small changes in the shader got smooth the edges of craters that
a positive impact on their form:

And also change the shape of volcanoes:

Looks very nice, you should specify which version of the program this is for though.

Intel Core i7-5820K 4.2GHz 6-Core Processor
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC 6GB

Thanks.
Yes, I forgot that.
It was tested with 0.974 patches 6 and 7 only.
With 0.973 not working.

All you need in life are space games and typhlosions.

Is this compatible with rodrigo's shaders? As i'm still getting the messed up volcanoes. I did remember to clear the cache by the way.

Yes, I know.
I asked Rodrigo to change some parameters.

Great add-on! I think Rodrigo's and Klud's shaders should be included as default for every upcoming patch :)

One minor observation regarding the craters: Although smooth crater edges are more realistic on planets with atmospheres, they would look unnatural on airless selenas because there is no erosion at 0 atm. It would be great if there could be an equation in the shader file where one variable is atm pressure and the derivative is degree of erosion in crater edge. As atm pressure increases so smoothness of crater edge increases. I have no clue however as to how this can be implemented :'(

PS: One can argue however that there could be errosion in airless bodies due to tectonic activity - I haven't thought of that

On the bodies without atmosphere there is "thermal erosion" (with large fluctuations in temperature, because of this very hot rocks, first, and then, when cooled, cracked and broken) and the impact of micrometeorites.
It destroys relief.

A few photos of Apollo 11 & 17:

Never thought about how much thermal erosion affects the surface of an airless planet. Makes perfect sense. Can't wait to install your shaders biggrin

Maybe it got accidentally un-implemented with the RC1 version, as I encounter plenty of odd-shaped, ugly volcanoes.
