Some Ideas I've thought of for SpaceEngine

Some ideas I've thought of while playing SpaceEngine:

Ability to make your own constellation- the user is able to create constellations by connecting stars with lines and name the constellation. When the user is on the surface of an object he/she can see the constellations move in day and night. Real constellations can be implented too.

Land Vehicles- This can be using the model of the curiosity rover or any other models. This enables the user to see the landscape in the camera of the vehicle. The controls will be to accelerate, brake, reverse, turn left and right and rotate the camera to view in different angle.

Ability to put a flag on an object- Just like the first man on the moon putting an American flag on it, the user can put a flag of their nationality on an object. The movement of the flag can either be based on real physics involving gravity and wind speed or 3D animation.

Rogue planets- These planets are planets with so sun, so they are free floating in outer space and these planets have no light source and have a probably cold temperature. More informarion abour rogue planets: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_planet

Some ideas for rivers:

River delta- It is a landform that forms at the mouth of the river. Since SpcaeEngine has rivers now, this can possibly make it more detailed. More information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_delta
River tributaries- These are like branches of the rivers. On one river, many small tributaries may connect to it. More information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tributary
River source- this usually starts up in the moundtains. Rivers usually start at mountains and SpaceEngine has mountains and canyons, so the river can just start there. More Information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_source

Some of these ideas are really good and will most likely be a thing when SpaceEngine becomes a real RPG game as SpaceEngineer hopes it will. Constellations are another thing: No matter where you look you will always be looking straight at a star. Maybe a magnitude limit for connections?
Rogue planets and more detailed and accurate rivers are very likely to come soon. But just one thing: Many long-time users on this forum are either astronomers, rocket scientists, 3D modelers, or at least seriously know what they're talking about when it comes to anything. I think they will know what a river delta is. wink

I'm back, but am I here to stay? Hopefully!

Ability to make your own constellation

As an human construct I don't find this important by now. Making contellations is quite arbitrary and would make no more change than the possibility of naming the planets you visited. What would be the goal? one star could be part of millions of different constellations over different night skies.

Land Vehicles

This has been commented many times. The current limitations of the Engine make this impossible by now (the surface is not solid always sad ). Here you have threads where this is discussed and where the developer of SE explains the issue:

Ability to put a flag on an object

hahaha, this reminds me of this:

As Carl Sagan said: "astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience"
I find a bit absurd that in a virtual universe of 10^24 real size worlds, putting flags on objets could be of any interest as if our national discrepancies on this minuscule dust particle makes any sense. But well that's only my opinion, and why not making a game like that one day? When version 1 of the engine comes out it would be avaiable for game developers so the gameish part of the software has to be accounted by them when the moment arrives. I personally don't want this to become a game, I appreciate this as a tool for educational purpouses.

Rogue planets

This would be agreat feature. We are discussing this topic in a whole thread right now.
Here you have the link smile http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/8-2386-1

River

All this issues are normally adressed in the general suggestions thread. It would be awesome to have what you are proposing, and many other features of geological sciences. Here you have some interesting ideas for the rivers that have been also examined in this forum: http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/8-154-37588-16-1391694135

Realistic rivers are impossible on an GPU procedurally generated landscape. This could be called "holy grail" of procedural generation. The only way to generate something river-like is a complex multi-pass CPU algorithm, or even fluvial erosion simulation. On a clear procedural engine as SE it is simply impossible.
