giant stars All stars are on Milky Way

UY Scuti (Red Hypergiant) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UY_Scuti

I thought those stars was already on SE, and I also thought VY Canis Majoris was the biggest one... (feel kinda old wacko )
Are those stars recently discovered/studied?

I cannot check right now, but is it possible that those stars are on SE with their Hipparcos number?
for example PZ Cassiopeae has designation HIP 117078 on that catalogue.

Their names (UY, VX etc) are from the very ancient system of naming the variable stars. This mean that they was known for decades, if not centuries.

You forgot the planets catalog (for the stars bodies). This catalog is only the barycenters.

RockoRocks, you may calculate the distance to the stars with missing distance data using their spectral type and appmagn. Or, much more easy, let do it SE - it can calsulate the distance automatiaclly. You can control the result in the log if you set the StarSilentLoading false in the universe.cfg.

Oh thanks! I thought the star distance was something you had to fill in or the star won't appear or the game would crash or something.

Check my post for the updated catalog with random distance estimates removed.

This is not a bug, it is simply so that this stars' distance and RA/Declination mean the Star is actually situated somewhere there. It is technically still in the Milky Way, only somewhat high above the galactic plane.

This is because you have only added the Star Barycenters to your catalogs.
You must also add the code from my second post here to Stars.sc (in the planets folder). Otherwise none of the stars will be visible.

RockoRocks all supergiant stars are lower diameter Why?

NML Cygni = 7.617 AU diameter

VY Canis Majoris = 18.132 AU diameter

Space Engine doesn't account for interstellar reddening/extinction, so in reality those stars are much more luminous and therefore larger than SE calculates them to be.

Maybe I put in incorrect diameter value. Which unit is star size in SpaceEngine specified in?
Also it looks like the NML Cygni's diameter is the same as its radius so just doubling the value (making it 1147575000) will fix it.

Apparently VY was estimated bigger than it was until recently. I liked when WOH G64 was considered the largest star for a while. It allowed for "WOH, that's a big star!" puns.
