| Hi, After the discussion on the General Suggestions forum, I came up with an idea of a landing page for Space Engine. It uses the HTML5 Boilerplate template and uses Bootstrap. It is entirely written in HTML+JavaScript, so you can put it anywhere and still have it working (assuming the "where" is a place with direct link capability, not Google Drive for example). In fact I hosted it in my Dropbox, and it's working perfectly fine.
So yeah, this was an idea that popped up, and I spent some time making it - had fun, and learnt new things (such as the smooth scroll and gallery slideshow) !
Test it here: http://bit.ly/spaceengine (short link for the easy-to-share) Obviously the text can be changed, and the images can be changed as well. Speaking of the images, I took the liberty to download some of the ones in the Image Dump thread to put them along mines - if you have a problem with that, tell me and I'll replace them ASAP. All the authors are credited in the Gallery page, and shots were given names too (feel free to propose yours !)
For the gallery, apparently when running from dropbox Firefox told me the page was suspicious. So if you don't see the images, disable javascript security for that page.
Hope you like it!

| This is great for advertise!! I like it too in that format. And you have used two of my screenshots!! now I feel usefull for this community
I have to say in that matter that my pics are not only made with plain SE but with the planette palettes of Toty and the color distortion Mod made by Rodrigo that tranform them into something else. If someone ask you for why those kind of thing don't show up

| Tell your browser to allow the page use javascript.
I don't quite know what a planetarium is either, but it is a feature SpaceEngineer is going to implement, so I think this is a valuable feature
FastFourierTransform, SE is moddable, so yeah, I don't really mind if these are not totally vanilla Added (14.08.2014, 01:05) --------------------------------------------- Also, a nice idea would be to make "themed" landing pages based on this one, so you can highlight certain features of Space Engine.

| Nice! It looks more modern than our current homepage! I wish we could know what SpaceEngineer thinks of it?
And the gallery at the bottom doesn't work if i click the images. It just shows a white screen (dropbox limitation maybe?)
I will be inactive on this forum for the time being. Might come back eventually

| Yeah, I figured out that Dropbox doesn't give a certificate for security, so browsers (Firefox I know because I tested with it) disable JavaScript. Since the gallery is javascript driven, the page won't show up (well technically it shows up, all the images downloads, but they don't fade in because JS is blocked).
So you have to disable security checks when going to the gallery. When we'll have the page put in a dedicated place, everything will work fine.

| "Get Lost", probably, isn't a good combination of words you have to see when you first come to the new site.

| Well, as I said, I think more or less everything will be changed, from the images to hte text and maybe even some of the layout (I don't really like the way the donation & goals part is looking ...)
This is just a sketch of an idea I had in mind, not the final product (I could just speedrun the building and put "Lorem ispum" everywhere). I'm open for suggestions !

| First, I don't realize that the site can be scrolled down. I find this only today! Too liitle information on the screen, its area is not used effectively. Second, images are too large. The whole page is too heavy. Think of laptops with small screen and mobile devices! Third, I must scroll the page to the end to find links to download, forum, and other useful stuff. They must be in the visible place, on the top, or fixed on the screen. Fourth, the page must contain video. Smaller images, but better video! Look at the Star Citizen page. But idea is good, I like it! BTW, that is a purpose of the button "Find Out More"? I clicked it, but nothing happened.

| Quote SpaceEngineer ( ) I don't realize that the site can be scrolled down. I find this only today! Too liitle information on the screen, its area is not used effectively. The "Find Out More" button is here for you. You click it, and it scrolls down for you and you realize there is all this content to be discovered! However I can make a "scroll down" thing in the bottom of the screen to explicitely tell that there's more content waiting for you.
Quote SpaceEngineer ( ) images are too large. The whole page is too heavy. Think of laptops with small screen and mobile devices! Third, I must scroll the page to the end to find links to download, forum, and other useful stuff. They must be in the visible place, on the top, or fixed on the screen. The images are background images that get rescaled and repositioned function of the window size. Not only it recognize the difference between screen sizes, but you can also see the changes in real time when you resize the window. This is the so-called "responsive" design. I designed this with a 1280x720 laptop, but having designed pages in this style with my home computer (which is 1080p), it does work as well (you see that all the images are 1080p or more). Bootstrap makes it work on mobile phones with little effort, but as the product is not designed for phones, and this is just a landing page (you are supposed to only see it when the product is shown, after that you directly go to this site. Plus all images are in a progressive JPEG format to try to bring the size down while maintaining quality (this is the whole point of a landing page, to attract with beautiful things :P)
Quote SpaceEngineer ( ) I must scroll the page to the end to find links to download, forum, and other useful stuff. They must be in the visible place, on the top, or fixed on the screen. There's a menu openable on the right, but you're right I should maybe add a second button that brings to the download page. And I didn't even put a single link reffering to here, now I notice that!
Quote SpaceEngineer ( ) the page must contain video. Smaller images, but better video! Look at the Star Citizen page. But idea is good, I like it! Yes. I just haven't searched for a good video. The background can also be a video, this is now a standard HTML5 feature. Maybe a 30s 480p video on the background (best quality/size ratio), and then a YouTube video embedded. (480p is more than fine, Spotify and Twitter uses 480p videos on their homepage, it looks good)
Quote SpaceEngineer ( ) BTW, that is a purpose of the button "Find Out More"? I clicked it, but nothing happened. Have you got javascript enabled (or the security disabled) ? Dropbox doesn't provide browsers a certificate, and I bet it's the JS "window.document" access that makes the browser (at least Firefox) does not process javascript. This is a requirement for those sites nowadays. However if this is put anywhere else it will work fine (tested while opening the HTML files directly, and passing through a local server: results are the same, everything works normally).
