Well I thought it might be interested to reclassify the Magellanic Clouds (both the LMC and SMC ofcourse) into a somewhat unfamiliar type of spiral barred galaxy.

''A spiral barred Magellanic-type galaxy'' with a class of ''SB(s)m'' according to Wikipedia would be nice to see it in S.E.
Just a suggestion though. Especially now in the latest version the LMC looks really nice from the inside and appears to indeed have a clearly noticeable and prominent bar at it's center. biggrin

n3xt, two things: 1) it was not necessary to make a new thread for this; you know this by now. 2) that classification you're talking about is in the de Vaucouleurs system. SE uses the Hubble sequence. The Hubble sequence has no equivalent classification to what you're talking about.

If you were on Wikipedia looking at that, then you could have followed a couple of links while you were there and discovered this yourself.

I plan to upgrade galaxy classification system by introducing de Vaucouleurs system, dwarf and compact galaxies, etc.

Aren't the two Magallanic Clouds a bit flat? I thought they were more like elliptic galaxies. smile

Love Space Engine!

They are irregular, not elliptical. However in SE at present it is way too hard to give them a more three-dimensional shape while still maintaining their true appearance, so they are simply represented as flat disks.
