| Hi, I've been playing with SE and wow I've never seen anything so powerful. I've wanted something like this for years. However I am really disappointed not to find any nebulae. I've searched for ages and not found a single one. Are they not yet in SE? I love the depth to which you are taking this. To even the level of creating procedural life. Wow... can't tell you how impressed I am. One thing I would like to see, is the stars rather than be simple spheres, but rather to have at least a looped animation of their surface. Probably a huge ask given the masses of stars in SE. On Nebulae, I really hope they won't just be an image of it hanging in the sky like in Celestia. I crave the ability to fly around, and through them. To see them from other sides (not sure if it's possible since we only know one viewpoint. Definitely a wishlist item Keep up the fantastic work. When you are at vers 1, I will happily pay for this to assist you in it's development.

| Hi,
Nebulae are present in SE, but whey are very small and dim to see from a huge distance. If you go to Solar System and take a look at Orion, you can see the small pink bulb under its belt - this is M 42, the Orion Nebula. You can open the find object dialog (F3) and type 'M 42'. But current release (0.93) has a bug that does not allow you to select a nebula from the find object dialog or by mouse click. So you must fly to it manually.
You can find other nebulae using this trick. Go out into intergalactic space to see Millky Way galaxy at full size. Then press and hold <Shift-]> to increase galaxies limiting magnitude, this works together with nebulae and clusters magnitude. You can see diffuse nebulae as pink spots and clusters as blue or yellow spots. If you continue increasing the magnitude, you will see thousands of planetary nebulae as green spots. Then fly manually to a nebula and then decrease the magnitude back to its original setting.
Sorry for this bug. It is now fixed:)
I will answer about stars in a different thread.

| I am still having a problem with Nebulae. For awhile, about 3 - 4 loads of SE, adjusting the magnitute showed the pink areas you mentioned as Nebulae, n they are very nice.
However now, even if I up the magniture to 17 (basically an almost white screen) it is not showing any pink areas. Even if I pop out of the galaxy and do it, they still are not showing up. I don't know why, they did work, but now I can't find any.
Maybe a simpler solution would be under Select Object, you could then break that down into general types. ie Stars, Planets, Open Clusters, Nebulae (sub menu Planetary & Supernova), Galaxies and possibly black holes.
If not, then definitely the select object needs two things:
1. An ability to scroll the list.
2. A Filter system, so you can tick box on the objects you want to see.
Under planet types, there could be something to assist you in finding Earth like worlds, or a particular type you are looking for for the game, ie for resources, or tourism.

Yes like a search system for specific planet types and solar system conditions as placement and size and movement. I have an idea on a search system that i ill post soon. I just need to polish it some first.

| Neon,
Try to find nebulae in the Milky Way or M 51 or other galaxies with "normal" models. Only increase the galaxy magnitude (Shift-]), do not do it for the other objects.
I think in next release I shall add a new feature - a marker on an object. This will be a small dot (a circle or cross), rendered at the object's position and seen from any distance (this distance can be adjusted in the menu). So you can open F4 menu, then check the "show markers" check-box and then check which object you wish to see the marker on (such as orbits and labels check-boxes). For example, check the "Nebulae" box and unchecked all other objects, then you'll pink/green circles in space, then you would select nebulae by clicking on one and fly to it.
Another idea: Is with a Star map. It is a window with an external 3D viewer looking at a region of the galaxy, there displaying all objects at some distance from current location. You could check/uncheck any object type markers here to, and change the range/distance to an object. But for stars there must be some restrictions. SE can't display all of the 300 billions stars of a galaxy at once
DevonX, I think searching for interesting types of planets is a kind of gameplay, right? So adding a search system now would kill that...

| The option for a marker would be a big help. I've found very few nebulae, except for those I know their position.
Yeh I guess it would be a gameplay issue. I can live without it.

| So, the reality was boring that shown by Hollywood and most games:) Space is dark and filled with stars, and nebulae are a rarity

Nebulae are transparent as they should be (unlike movies & games) but god they are beautiful.
