| More information is needed.
Patches are not required, they are recommended. What version are you running? Post your specs and your log file.

| dindibo4, we really cannot begin to help you unless you follow instructions and post complete information. We have a dedicated troubleshooting thread for this purpose. We need to see your system specifications and your se.log file if it exists. (Check your SE > system folder for a text document called "se".)
Edit: Fixed link to go to the correct thread

| I was having the exact same issue, then I tried running SE in Windows 7 compatibility mode and it worked just fine.

| I had the same problem, but I got it to work. here's what I finally figured out (using Windows 8.1): Right click the Space Engine icon on your desktop, click on Properties, go to Compatibility, and then under Compatibility mode, check the check box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and change the drop-down box to "Windows 7" (or another versions of of Windows). If that doesn't work, press the button above it that says "Run compatibility troubleshooter", let that process and tell it to work with an earlier version of Windows.
I'm assuming that maybe Space engine (0.973) might not be exactly built to work with my Windows 8. But if that doesn't work, or your not a Windows user, I not sure what to tell you.
