| Hello! 'smee again!
It's been awhile since I last made a post on here, school and stuff, and thus my version of SE is now 2 versions outdated. I recently downloaded the newest version, but cannot get it to start. Every time I try to open SpaceEngine.exe through wine it boots up, then immediately vanishes without a trace. No se.log file is created either, which is why it is not attached.
I was wondering if anyone else who uses Linux can help a kid out, since I have about as much technical skill as my pet cat.

| Zaddy23, what do you mean by open SpaceEngine.exe through wine?
Try to run it from a terminal window. Type cd <SpaceEngine directory>/system, then ./SpaceEngine.exe and it should start. It's important that you launch it from the directory where the .exe file is located. Otherwise SE will crash.
Running it from a terminal window would also give you some feedback from wine. Most of it is harmless stuff, but it could give hints if it still fails to start.

I apologise for sounding dumb, but that's all Greek to me.
By opening with wine I mean I extracted the .zip folder into a folder on my desktop, then I right click SpaceEngine.exe and click "open with Wine" then a virtual Wine desktop starts, then immediately closes without so much as a crash report.
Along with fezes and bowties, brown dwarves are cool.

| In that case I don't know what the working directory for SE will be, but in any case you wont see any feedback from wine.
Try to find a terminal window. Where to find it depends on the window manager that you run (whether Gnome, KDE, etc). You'll usually find it in the start menu under system tools or something similar, usually called terminal or console. Once you open that, you get a command line prompt at your home directory. Type "cd" followed by a directory name to change the folder you're in. Type "ls" to list the folder content. "cd Desktop" possibly takes you to your Desktop folder. From there "cd SpaceEngine\ 0.973/system" (or whatever the folder is named) takes you the folder where you can start SE by typing "./SpaceEngine.exe". You only need to type in the first letters and you can complete the name by pressing the tab key. In Linux case matters ("Desktop" and "desktop" can be two different folders).
If you use Linux, it will pay off a lot to become familiar with the terminal and the file system.
