I have tried to capture a video (uncompressed) but the file goes only up to 4GB which are 15-20 seconds. If I make a longer one it somehow override the first part of the video with this result:

How can I make a video longer then 15-20 seconds?

second-ich, try installing and/or using different codec. The in-game recorder is best for smooth recording, as it always renders full frames even on slower machines, but you can also use external recorders if you can handle it.

Well, I'm not familiar with other video codecs or recorder so I was very happy that SpaceEngine has a inbuild option for video capturing. And it works just fine unless, how I said, the file size gets over a size of 4gb.

1. Why can it not just capture on or at least stop recording if the 4gb limit is reached and don't override the video?
2. Is the trailer for SP 0.9.7.2 made with the inbuild video capture function or an external solution?

From my experience, and confirmed by SpaceEngineer here, video capture is limited to 4GB file size. My solution was, as Aerospacefag said above, to use a codec, even a lossless one (I'm using x264 configured for lossless).

For those not familiar with codecs, it's easier to download a free package like the K-Lite from codecguide.com (the Full or Mega versions for video production capabilities). If you want your videos to play "everywhere", DivX or Xvid are good options to choose from when you start the in-game recorder.

Thanks for the reply! I have installed the K-Lite codec-pack (full version) but I have no other option in Space Engine for video capturing?

I second "second-ich" (no pun intended biggrin ) about this issue. I'm trying to make 4k videos, and the 4Gb limit is quite... limiting.
In version 0.97 the video capturing method (based on saving the single frames), didn't have this limit. Would it be possible to add this option back?

I would like to add my third on this issue. I have just installed the k-lite pack and no additional codecs are there which is VERY weird considering they are all in my Adobe Media Encoder Module.

Us video enthusiasts and 3d animators LOVE image sequences so it would be great to have that feature.

Sorry, I somehow forgot about this thread.

If you're having the same problem I had, then the codecs are there but not listed on the dropbox for codec selection when entering capture mode. Just select it and use the keyboard's up and down arrows. That should allow you to cycle through the codecs.
