Its my intro post too, very first post on this awesome forum. I first wanna say thanks to SE engine team that help thousands of people who can't afford telescope and $$$ gadgets and loved space, chance to view more in detail :). Thanks again.

I used SE for the first time and was quite impressed. I lately found some stunning graphics of the surface details of different planets and even if you looking at a planet from a distance, it was magnificent. While If I turn on the LOD2 from -2 and start the game, it simply hangs.

If I turn on LOD2 while playing it results in nothing. I even try modifying the shadder main.cfg file but that results in nothing too. I will really appreciate if someone guide me whats causing the issue. Game is running smoothly at -2 LOD but at -1 and up it crashes.

Specs : Core i5 @ 3.6Ghz
4gb
Ati 7850 1gb (256bits) latest drivers

Frankly, the GPU seems perfectly good for Space Engine. I have the equivalent (or just a bit less, I have a GTX660), and everything is fine with all the LODs.

Try to delete the cache folder from the Space Engine folder and run Space Engine again. Maybe that will help the crash at LOD -1 and more.

i have re-installed the game, and now its not even starting :/

Ok i jsut restarted my system and it worked but not on full screen andwiht LOD -2. In game I switch everything to max and things started to look great. I visited moon with great detail then I went "surfing". When i visited the moon again and other planets they were again "low graphic" texture :/

whts going on sad

You have to let the computer load the textures first, when you go away the textures unloads to have more memory for others textures to be loaded.
So when you go on an interstellar trip and come back "home", you'll see the planets look blurry, but that's just temporary. Wait until the textures are fully loaded and anjoy the view wink

You shouldn't use LOD 2. It takes up far more memory than any card can use (unless you have some 3GB+ behemoth) and takes a long time to generate. Use it only for setting up screenshots. Use LOD 0 or less for most of your flying around.

Odd, I just tried it and it hardly hitched or stuttered. I still wouldn't recommend it, though, because it loads the landscape much slower.

hmm I'm not facing any kind of lag but will give it a try on LOD0 and when doing screen shots will switch to LOD2

This should make no difference for landscape generation, as it is generated directly on the GPU and stored in memory. It doesn't use the disk.

ok I give it a try, I used LOD0 or -2 to surf around but landing on any planet and tuning to LOD2 results in nothing. Sometime it loads(within 5sec) something it doesn't even for 2 minutes. And the game is only running in window mode, switching to full screen causes a crash.

Whats happening with me sad
I'm a die-hard fan for astrology and happening this with me is unjustified.

It's just a memory error; SE still doesn't have optimized memory usage and has lots of inefficiencies in the engine, so it will have some problems like that, especially when you use it for a long time. If you have problems after running it for a while, just restart the program and it should be ok.

Well, I am on LOD2 for flying around and the landscapes takes about 5-10 seconds to generate. And doesn't takes so much RAM (I don't know about VRAM tho)

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 660
RAM: 4Gb
