I want to chime in here and help. Harbinger helped me with this thread last night. (thank you HarbingerDawn) I had the same issues. The link he gave you is truly the best link you can have. I will help you if need be. Please locate your 0.97 SpaceEngine Folder. Once you do that, in order to edit if you don't see notepad icon, right click the main.cfg file and open with.. select Notepad under the choices and it will open in notepad allowing you to edit this. Please tell me once you are ready to edit main.cfg

PS - You do NOT need to be in the game to change settings. You can do so from the directory of SE 0.97 folder.

No, I mean the settings in the config folder. However, if it's crashing the instant to click the icon, I don't know what would help.

The only idea I have left is to try compatibility mode for Win 7, but that's just a stab in the dark so to speak.

File or folder. These are two different things. Are you talking about the file .exe or Folder? 0.97 is named SpaceEngine 0.97 (I believe)

Did you mean folder? Also, if you are having crashes like your title explains I was having the same issues and I did two things that cleared it and it was explained clearly in the link that was provided and I played SE for two hours straight (until sleep) verses the usual 5 minutes til crash

(So you now can edit through notepad based on the instructions I gave you? Is that right?) If so, the link on the first page will be very helpful.

So it was able to open without crashing? Anyways, could you post it up?

Edit: Theres no need to actually post it within the thread, just use the attatchment function when posting.

I'm going to repost what helped me in this situation. YOU MUST read this carefully and follow instructions. This means when you edit the main.cfg file with notepad you must SAVE IT and the DELETE the CACHE folder, THEN run the program again. Running the program will create a NEW CACHE folder which may solve your issue.

Read below.

then try to disable asynchronous loading of a resources. Open the file config/main.cfg with the Notepad and change this parameter to 1: (This is located on the bottom of the file)

LoaderMode 1 // loader mode: 0 = immediate, 1 = interleaved, 2 = asynchronous

After that, delete the cache folder from the SpaceEngine directory. Performance will drop while flying between a stars and galaxies, but stability may be improved. After a while, all models of galaxies and nebulae a being be generated, and you may enable asynchronous loading back (set up LoaderMode 2).

Open Config Folder, locate "main.cfg" and right click and open with "Notepad" If it has a notepad icon on it just double click to open. The follow the instructions I posted prior

Having a lot of stability issues with 0.97. I was running 0.96.2 Beta on a Win 7 64 Home Premium system - Core I7 - that was ATI based. I just bought a Win 8 Core I7 Nvidia GT 635M. (Using the other computer for music and art applications).

Anyhow, drivers are up to date. I get crashes - and I could set a clock by them when:

I use the search function, when I try to fly to another galaxy. Occasionally it just crashes. I realize this is still beta and that crashes will happen. But it seems like I had a fewer crashes on the Win 7 machine.

Attached is my se.log file. Any insight would be appreciated!

VladVoivode, did you read the OP of the troubleshooting thread? Specifically the fix mentioned in item 4?

Hi HarbingerDawn,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. The crashing is less frequent after making the adjustment suggested. Performance between stars and galaxies is fine but at the planetary level performance drops dramatically. Running an I7 with up to date Geforce GT635M.

And like clockwork, even with a deleted cache before launch, SE always crashes after doing the search for stars and planets even within a radius of 1. But, no biggie, it's fun to click around as I am used to.

Thanks for your help!

Best,
Vlad
