Okay we have all seen the juicy pictures. The cosmic web. Wouldn't it be amazing to keep zooming out from the billions of galaxies to view the matrix like web the universe has created. I'd imagine it would be wise to fade out galaxies as you fade in pink or purple sprites in a web like point cloud?

I dunno. I am just the ideas guy :P

Wrong time period, and it would not have looked like that, anyway. The image you're showing is from a computer model of the era of structure formation very early in the universe's history, before stars even existed. It is false colored to show density variations in the dark matter. To the eye it would have been completely invisible.

The arrangement of galactic clusters in the present universe is a consequence of that cosmic web, with filaments and sheets and large voids in between. Space Engine has shown this large scale structure since v0.96. It's just not very obvious since the space between galaxies is so large. Try turning up the magnitude limit to see it.

Also, please stop posting new threads without doing a forum search first.

Actually you can already sortof do it, by turning up the galaxy light magnitude in the bottom right

I'm sorry I didn't get the scientific specifics right... I was merely going on what I understand from watching the "Cosmic Address" parts in both Cosmos series. The point of my post was to ask for a more visually aesthetic way of visualizing the network of galaxies and hubs as you zoom out more. The "Observable Universe" After seeing it on cosmos represented as such.

Perhaps in the far future of SE when some sort of education and visualization branch can be built these kinds of features could find a place.

The goal right now however is to actually finish the engine in a realistic manner before anything extra is really added, beyond that there is also the gameplay aspects. It will be a long time from now, if ever, for such things to be added.

Gameplay? Oh that is such a bad idea. They already have massive open universe games in the line. This would be the most fantastic amazing product if it was for educational and visualization purposes. I can imagine so many planetariums worldwide adopting space engine. What a shame such a good thing will be going in such a wrong direction.

Oh well... I will see what happens who knows.

aaronv2, it will be for both educational and gaming purposes.
It have already been suggested to be able to see the universe in more light wavelengths: that way we could 'see' something more like the picture you publish. But it will take a little bit longer since there are more priorities right now.

But perhaps none so realistic and expansive as SpaceEngine. Correct me if I'm wrong, but while Elite may be a good game too for example, it's only in the Milky Way.

I will be inactive on this forum for the time being. Might come back eventually

Well life as we know it in the universe is quite a rare thing. If you travel to another galaxy what are the chances of finding another species to have space battles with?

I just thought that games like "Limit Theory" and "No Mans Sky" had the gaming environment covered.
No Mans Sky boasts that EVERYTHING is procedural.
No Man's Sky - Youtube

It just seems a shame that the possible development of making Space Engine one of the most photorealistic simulators out there will be instead replaced by the development of the game aspect.

But as I said who knows.

Nobody knows and the online game being planned for SpaceEngine is not really about combat.

Gameplay Concept
Spaceflight Physics Concept
Mothership Concept

Who said it would be replaced by the development of a game?

You really need to use the search function before posting

Well its simple logic... Imagine all time being used just to make Space Engine as beautiful and accurate as possible.

Then imagine time used for Development of the game aspect and also the Simulation Engine.

I feel like this forum is very hostile tho and I have only been here one day so I might just give up trying to take part in the community. I love Space Engine tho. Thanks guys.

This has little to do with being hostile and more to do with the fact that posting without searching causes unnecessary clutter, redundant threads, and confusing/potentially misleading information.

This is hostile? I sent this before you made this thread.

We love to see discussion and suggestions from new users, but like Doc says, we do ask and expect that you put a little effort in to seeing if it was already discussed elsewhere first. I really don't think this is unreasonable.

I am so confused with all of this. I made a thread about the electromagnetic spectrum and Whatshisname send me a lovely IM. I got it and did learn to search before posting. So thats what I did, A search. And could find nothing about the cosmic web. The other thing is I am not as deep in astrophysics as you are. So when you say that this is an Electromagnetic Spectrum feature I didn't know that... at all. I thought it was a visible light phenomenon like looking at the patterns of lights on the dark side of earth instead of seeing the individual lights up close. A smearing of detail because resolution is low.

ALL I knew for sure at the time is that on BOTH cosmos series... when they zoomed right out we saw the "purple web stuff". I simply wanted to see something that beautiful in Space Engine.

In my scientific ignorance how was I meant to know that what I was asking for was an EMS feature. I just thought it was an artifact of zooming out from so many galaxies. That they just all smear into a web like system.

Thats what upsets me. Someone passionate and curious and willing to learn... You just. I don't know I just feel like the dumb kid at school everyone is pointing fingers at when really I just love what is out there and want to learn more.

Thanks for completely turning me off this community. I feel like that ANYONE who is passionate yet ignorant to the science that posts here is going to be treated the same way. So have fun with all this guys. I really must leave I cannot stand the level of condescending tone. I'm really sorry, but you have managed to make me feel like an outcast.

And I honestly expected better in a forum like this. From how you have been treating me I am sure you will not miss me and need not reply. Just delete these topics and move on with your development.

Sorry to bother you all.
