I think you mean PNG; it's already in JPEG format.
When you upload an image to the SE internal server itself and you include it on your post (like $IMAGE1$), a low resolution JPEG-like image will be created (that's why he thought it was JPEG) clicking embedded images will show them in full resolution

Not one word of that had any relevance to what he was saying. Anyway, the image was in jpg format, just look at the attachment.
