Virgin Galactic did its first glide test of its SpaceShipTwo VSS Enterprise with the rocket motor and leading edge thermal protection materials installed yesterday, 19 December. And I must say, it looks damn sexy now. They plan to have two more glide tests before powered flights begin.

Dear Santa...

On a not entirely related note, the members of the space engine forum should get together to try and put something into orbit.

Some people on the UnmannedSpaceflight forum had a similar idea. And basically it's impossible. Trying to launch and/or operate a spacecraft of any kind is a spectacularly difficult and expensive endeavor, far beyond what we here could manage.

And basically it's impossible

We just need a pound of Chuck Norris. And a 10000-12000 pounds of fuel, millions of dollars, a launch site, workers, a design team and a lot of coffee.

Which would be impossible to accumulate.

Those plans sound about as legit as filling up one of these with rocket fuel and expecting it to work.

So that settles it. The users of these fine forums will be going into orbit in cheap cardboard rockets made of recycled material. cool

The most efficient and environmentally responsible way to go to space, for sure. Gets the Kerbal seal of approval.

I knew it was impossible from the start. I mean, everyone knows there is no known material that contain even a milligram of Chuck Norris, let alone a pound.
