| Blue Origin has tested its throttleable, restartable BE-3 hydrogen/oxygen rocket engine which will be used on both suborbital and orbital launchers currently in development for carrying astronauts, and which will be fully reusable (suborbital) and partially reusable (orbital).

| NASA has selected SpaceX to lease its Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39A, which has launched such historic missions as the first Saturn V flight (Apollo 4), and the final flight of the Space Shuttle (STS-135). NASA and SpaceX will now begin to negotiate the terms of the lease.

Also, Orbital Sciences launched their Cygnus spacecraft towards the ISS on Thursday on its first operational cargo resupply mission for NASA's CRS program.

| SpaceX's F9R development vehicle - a.k.a. Grasshopper 2 - has been observed at their McGregor, Texas rocket development facility. Unlike the previous Grasshopper, the new vehicle is representative of actual flight hardware, based on a Falcon 9 v1.1 first stage. Legs of that design will likely be flying on operational orbital missions within the next few months. Grasshopper 2 will perform early, low-altitude flight testing at McGregor, before moving to Spaceport America in New Mexico for high-speed, high-altitude testing which will more closely mimic the actual conditions the rocket stage will encounter on orbital missions.

Cool to finally see those legs deployed! I couldn't figure them out from the F9R diagrams floating around the internet.

| For some reason when I watch those SpaceX launch videos it feels like i'm watching an Orbiter video (but with realistic graphics). The way the camera moves feels very game/simulator-like.
I will be inactive on this forum for the time being. Might come back eventually

How tall is this thing? I mean look at the surrounding objects (trucks, buildings, masts): it must be at least 15meters tall! It's amazing how they managed to stabilize it! Even the slightest gust of wind may proove disatrous!

Why? The engine produces enough thrust to counter any amount of wind, and it has both attitude thrusters and thrust vectoring to control its flight. Watch their other flight test videos on the Grasshopper (the predecessor of the F9R dev vehicle), it was able to fly in and hold against the wind with no problem.
