I agree about evolution effects, so humanity would be only a stage in the earth's intelligence life? are we going to become a class III Kardeshev civilisation !? I've never really thought about this but this idea of a futur kind of us is really cool, do you think they will remember from where they originaly come? ( kinda BSG ) Talyn, this look really interesting!

I know very little about BSG, but in the Foundation books by Isaac Asimov, which are set 22000 years in the future, humanity actually lost Earth, not knowing where it was, and in fact even the concept of all humans originally coming from a single world because only a hypothesis, with the name 'Earth' becoming mythical. Many worlds claimed they were the original home of humanity (and all were wrong XD); and Foundation's Edge and Foundation&Earth are both about a journey to try and rediscover Earth.
If you know Asimov's work, you also know about a book where the original earth is now almost totally radioactive (go figure why) Maybe that is why the earth has become a legend in that far future. A global catastrophe (man made I guess) that erased a part of our civilization
Well, Asimov's work all takes place in the same universe... And Earth is indeed radioactive when they reach it. That is not the whole story, though; there are other influences at work that got it "lost" intentionally... But I'll leave that riddle to you if you ever read it. ;)
apenpaap, BSG (TOS starring the unforgetable Lorn Green, not the new crap with the end that nobody understood) plot is about a branch of humanity that has long ago set out to the stars, creating the 12 colonies fo Cobol (named after the 12 zodiac signs). After the robots created by them rebel (Asimov would have a field day on that one :D), killing most of humanity from all the 12 colonies, the few survivors set out to look for the original colony (earth).
Unfortunatelly, TOS ended after the second season as they found earth (a bit different from what we know it) and don't even get me started on the end of the new show, because I don't think that even the writters can explain it as it was a total CRAP.
Kinda like LOST ***SPOILERS WARNING*** where everyone was already DEAD and all was just a dream of they're "souls" in the end
i've only read one book of fondations... shame on me. I really liked how the science became a religion , I remember it was hard to read because of all the generations changes with protagonists, but that was long time ago, now i'll read it!

Hehe, the very first Foundation book, that one. The later ones don't have quite as many generation changes: Foundation&Empire (which is really good, by the way, and deals with two really big threats to the Foundation: the remnants of the Empire, and... Something Seldon could not foresee :o) has only two different generations of protagonists; Second Foundation has two generations of them too; and Foundation's Edge and Foundation&Earth actually share the same two protagonists across both whole books as they search for Earth. I haven't read the final two Foundation books, as they're prequels, both about Hari Seldon, so they don't have the constant protagonist changes either.
If you ask me, the best book to start reading the Foundation Series is incidentally the last Asimov wrote, some say it is incomplete, missing one full section, is Forward the Foundation. A real page turner
I like the original trillogy , but I couldn'd bring myself to read the other books yet, mostly because I know that even though they take place in the same universe, it's not pure Asimov as they were written by other writers and the style is obviously different :/
True, but the earliest beings that were even a little human were only a few million years ago; the Moon would have been maybe 130km closer to Earth, not enough to be noticeable And Homo sapiens only appeared 200,000 years ago, when the Moon was only perhaps 7km closer. But the stars would definitely have changed in that time, especially since a few million years ago. The sky would have been quite different, at least in its details, though overall the appearance would likely have been similar.

I would not care to see the collision. But I would love to be able to be frozen or suspended in some way! I would like to be awake only for 1 week each year to see what new things had been learned in science, and to see what happened in the world. Then I would be frozen/suspended for another year. I could possibly do this for over 1000 years

I haven't read Forward the Foundation and Prelude to Foundation myself yet, are they really that good? I might give them a read sometime if they are.
And yeah, I haven't read the Foundation books by other people either... They all seem to be prequels/interquels anyway, which is not really what I'd want... I want to see what happens after Foundation&Earth. XD
