| Yes. -ish is the important part here, that doesn't make it an oxymoron.  Dark purples, reds, and browns coupled with even darker nearly black bands would look very nice, I think.

| According to the link, the planet was pitch-black (meaning,this color) and had a faint red glow (only because it was so hot). So really, all it would be is a big dark red sphere. And if it was cooler, then it would just be a big ball of black.

| Well, it has a low albedo, but that doesn't mean it will actually look pitch-black. Our Moon has a low albedo too (13 times that of this planet, admittedly) and appears bright white in our skies. Earth's oceans have an albedo of only 0.02, only twice that of this planet, and they look dark blue, not black. If a world like this has varyingly light and dark zones like Jupiter, its zones might look completely black while its bands are brighter. A world like that further away from its star (so it wouldn't be red glowing hot) might look like:
for example. Except for the big editing artifacts.

| It probably isn't absolutely black, but it certainly would be very dark. Even with the very low albedo that this planet has (<0.01), it would still visibly reflect light, especially so close to its star. Even if it only reflected 0.1% of the light that hit it, it would still look very bright up close because of how much light it receives from its sun.
