| (ogggrez) Is this realistic? would we actually be able to see this much? Not really with the naked eye since the eye is not sensitive enough, but with a camera yes you would absolutely be able to take pictures like that if there were no light pollution (in fact those are real images being used there taken from dark skies).
If you ever get a chance, travel to some place with very dark skies and see just how much there is to be seen.

Wow! Even though you would have to use a camera that really amazes me :O . I know that when i'm in the country I see alot of stars, but there's always the pollution from nearby cities.
I definitely wan't to travel to some super dark place sometime, and if I do, i'm definitely bringing a good camera.

| Sad that I missed that one, but great that you both saw it and could share on camera!
I was up before dawn today and noticed the old crescent moon with earthshine. I could never get tired of seeing earthshine in twilight.

| Those are quite nifty shots. If I tried anything like that here they would be bright orange/brown images with no stars

| For the past ten years I've had at least one webcam outdoors on my wall recording (in Oslo, Norway), and it sometimes records interesting stuff. Here's a mix:
Northern lights, no timelapse, actual speed. Note that this is no super high sensitivity camera, just a pretty plain webcam with a wide angle lens mounted on it:

Timelapse of fog and the full moon:
http://voksenlia.net/nytt/2011/moonshine-20110118.mp4
More fog. The view from two cameras stitched together:

Ice fog and some light pillars. The view from two cameras stitched together:

Fog timelapse again:

Bright fireball. Note how it lights up the landscape before it enters the picture frame. A rumbling sound woke up people below its path. Meteorites on the ground likely, but nothing has been found:
