| Quote (HarbingerDawn) M 31 and M 110, and M 81 and M 82, and I might try to capture M 51 and NGC 5195 if I can. can't wait to see that. It could highly motivate me to spend some money... Quote (HarbingerDawn) I want to try to build a barn door tracker soon too Great project! Good luck with that. Quote (HarbingerDawn) though light pollution will still be a limiting factor. I guess the barn door could be transportable, allowing you to get even better quality on some occasions.

| Quote (Solaris) It could highly motivate me to spend some money... I'm selling my old camera (body only) for $250 + shipping to anyone who wants it, so if you are ever interested and can't find a better deal elsewhere let me know.
Quote (Solaris) Great project! Good luck with that. Thanks
Quote (Solaris) I guess the barn door could be transportable, allowing you to get even better quality on some occasions The problem is that there is nowhere that I can go to get away from the light pollution. The nearest dark skies are many hours away by car, and I don't have a car (and could not afford to drive that far if I did)

Quote (HarbingerDawn) The problem is that there is nowhere that I can go to get away from the light pollution. The nearest dark skies are many hours away What I mean is, maybe this situation won't stay all over your life and maybe one day you'll travel whatever the place with clear sky. Anyway, see a galaxy or other celestial objects through your own lens has to be tremendous experience.

Quote (Solaris) Anyway, see a galaxy or other celestial objects through your own lens has to be tremendous experience It's challenging because you actually can not see these galaxies and things through the lens, they're too dim (the lens does not gather a lot of light like a telescope does), so you have to be familiar with where these objects are in the sky, take a picture with a wide angle first and look at the image on the camera to see where the object is in your FOV, then as you refine the position of the object you can zoom in more until you have the level of zoom you want.
But yes, it is very rewarding when you get to see the images of them afterward

Telescope is another level, I have to get my eye on one of those before I die, there is plenty of "amateurs" who have cottage/space farm/hotel with nice homemade telescope(s), you rent a room, and the telescopes are free to use with help of course..

| Quote (Solaris) I meant through your own material, your everyday camera Okay, I thought you might be meaning that. I just wanted to address both possibilities.

| Not technically an astrophoto I suppose, but this seems like a fitting place to put it.
My first ever photo of the International Space Station! Artificially enlarged by a factor of 3
A new one from last night

| I tried photographing the moon with a spotting monocular and my phones camera.

I think that i was moderately successful.
Edit: I was testing some night sky photography. Results: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5fwxsevrxokzw25/gxagrwudJF

| Quote (SpaceEngineer) Wow, even Alcor is resolved off Mizar! Indeed. Both are fairly bright stars and they have a relatively large separation between them compared to most visual binaries, so this is not difficult.
I find it remarkable that distinguishing Mizar and Alcor should be seen more noteworthy than photographing the ISS It's interesting to see what fascinates different people (for instance, I find the LMC to be a more fascinating galaxy than any picture-perfect spiral like M 101 or M 51).

| Quote (HarbingerDawn) I find it remarkable that distinguishing Mizar and Alcor should be seen more noteworthy than photographing the ISS I agree. It's easy to distinguish Mizar and Alcor, but taking a photo of the ISS must be pretty darn difficult.

Quote (Antza2) I took some more pics. They look nice. You should try editing them with GIMP/Photoshop too to try to get the best look possible, and try different white balance settings on your camera. Keep pushing the envelope.
