While we're on the subject, I rather like this one: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap111208.html
Adam Block's work in general is superb. The rest can be found here: http://www.caelumobservatory.com/gallery/m16.shtml
The galleries are on the left.

I just can't wait for the time when SpaceEngine will render nebulaes and galactic dust with that detail biggrin
This moment is going to be heaven for me and, I bet, for most of us here smile

Very amazing picture, all of Hubble's pictures like that amaze me, Imagine living on a planet just a few light years away from such a formation, making it clearly visible to the naked eye in the skey even at dusk/dawn

Here's a great article about it, explaining some amazing facts hidden in those pixels:

That explanation has a lot to do with why I love that picture. It is a great snapshot of the low-key and unglamorous birth of a handful of small stars, and the awesomeness of their infancy is not overshadowed by bright and colorful surroundings. These events are occurring all the time, they're just not as noticeable as the mighty and bright star factories like Carina and Orion. And I think that that quiet provincial feel gives it a certain charm smile
