| Just came across an article on io9 about ultracompact dwarf galaxies, which are sort of like globular clusters but much bigger and brighter. Only a few have been discovered but they range in density from having a star every quarter light year to having a star every 1/20th of a light year. The night skies of planets in such a galaxy would be ridiculous.
Also probably pretty deadly, since supernova candidates would be packed much closer together and you'd wind up with oort clouds permanently disrupted and just constantly hailing comets everywhere.
They're thought to be the cores of regular-sized galaxies that got stripped of their fluffy outer regions by cosmic encounters, as they appear to have regular galaxy-sized supermassive black holes in their centers and a chemical composition reminiscent of a larger galaxy.
