Gigantic rings and giant moons

Just came across this article about a ring system around exoplanet J1407b, and it suggests some rather amazing visuals might be possible in young solar systems. The planet is a gas giant and apparently has a ring system 0.6 AU in radius. The ring's total mass is estimated at 100 times that of Earth's moon, and there's a gap in it that suggests a moon has formed with 0.8 times Earth's mass and an orbital period of two years.

To think I've been dubious about how common ring systems and distant super-Earth gas giant moons have been. Turns out Space Engine might have been conservative about those things. smile

The ring is expected to dissipate relatively quickly, the solar system is only 16 million years old. But wow. A sight worth hunting for.

This object is most likely a brown dwarf, not a giant planet. But this discovery is still intriguing!

This is amazing. Even if in this case is a brown dwarf, it would be awesome to implement it for giant planets.
It would be awesome to experience the skies of an earth size planet in gap of a gigantic dusty ring as they are suggesting there!

I like the fact that SE is conservative with somethings. But this trully has to be something that one could encounter within a few hours of exploration iside the engine.

And yes, rings around brown dwarfs are also quite necessary biggrin happy

As an addendum, someone made a mockup of how these rings would appear from Earth if they were around Saturn. The Moon is visible in the shot as well for scale.

Can anyone tell me how to restore the planet J1403 b? After the installation of a mod has disappeared! Together with the rings!

Sorry for my English! ;)

Download the 0.974 patch, the planet is included to the updated catalog.
