I tend to think the universe is full of bacterial life that has adapted to harsher environments. I don't think life has actually come into being on planets like Jupiter. Wouldn't surprise me if some microbes were found there but I doubt we would see anything larger.
I agree, I think bacterial life in a star system might be pretty much inevitable, but I don't think such large beings are likely to form on gas giants.
