At this time in 1961, Radio Moscow had just announced that Yuri Gagarin was in the middle of his historic orbital flight, Vostok 1, which made him the first human in space and the first human to orbit Earth.

I don't know if this was an exaggeration or a true emergency but I saw it in local newspaper in my country:

probably a media exaggeration to increase rating...

No, he really did almost drown. Also this is kind of old news by now.

NASA really seemed to downplay the incident as it was happening. All their articles around that time said something along the lines of "none of the astronauts were in any danger" during the incident, which is bull. Luca very very most certainly was. He really could have drowned had he not gotten back in sooner.

NovaSilisko, this is the most possible outcome of any incident in space, given sufficient time. That means, actually, he wasn't in grave danger, and there's no need to overestimate the level of danger, especially if we take in account a psychological stress of astronauts.

Awesome image of a Space Shuttle solid rocket booster splashing down in the Atlantic Ocean

Some cool video of the same

I think that a developer for a certain spaceflight game might have seen this too
